Is it possible? (midi control)

Post by windopz » Thu Mar 06, 2008 11:43 am

Hi. I have 8 tracks, eahc one with band with one filter, one distorsion and one compressor. I want to control each of these units, so I apply one knob for the Cutoff of the filter, one for the gain of the distorsion, one for the ratio of the compressor. Is there a way to assign tree knobs for these controls and to control with these tree knobs each unit in my 8 tracks? something like "by selecting the track, albeton live understand that the cutoff knob now control the filter of the selected track; by selecting another track it will controll the cutoff of the filter in the other track..."? Can I? Thank you

Easiest way would be to use one of the Control Surfaces like the Remote SL or any of the other ones that are supported by Live (check the list at the Midi preferences). If you don't want to buy one of these you should search for "User Remote Scripts".

what midiinterface are you using? because if you are not using one with "endless" rotary knobs you should keep in mind, that your values will jump if you change them on different tracks.

Not if you set Live's preferences accordingly (there are three different options for how this should behave, "jump" is just the default setting).

... i think you mean the thing called "relative mode"? in this case you won't be able to control the full range 0-127.

i.e. in this szenario:

1) you are on track1. decayvalue is set to 50. you increase it to 127 by turning the (hardware) knob to the very right.
2) you switch to track2. the decay is also on 50.

in this case you could only decrease the value, but you can't increase it, because your (hardware) knob is already on the very right position.

(i'm not 100% sure about that, because i never had to use it)

There is a third "pick-up" mode, so don't worry young Padavan (or whatever they're called 8)).

yes, i,ve been trying to do this too. I have an Axiom, basically if I have 8 tracks I want my controller to use the same controls for witchever track I have selected (a nice "tab" midi button to toggle tracks would be even better. only way I can do it os to recall different "spapshots on the controller but this is slow. I would love to be able to do this too.
