Probably stupid questions..

Post by cloudhistory » Mon Mar 24, 2008 8:46 pm

I know I read in the FAQ about changing the overall latency, but I adjusted it forwards and backwards and it still wasn't 'in sync" with a previously recorded audio track. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the directions.

Also, I find that only certain drum sounds work in impulse.. such as snare and not tom. Is that a patch thing? Though sometimes, the other parts work as well.

Finally, how do you put audio/midi effects to apply only to a certain section of a track?

2 ways to do this with audio effects:

either use the effect as an 'insert effect' (drop it on the channel you want to effect), then automate the on/off parameter.

Or, drop the effect on one of the two Return channels and automate to send level for the appropriate track.

Midi effects work the same way, but you can't use them as Send/Return effects.

Hope this helps. There's plenty written about automation in here, search for it!
yeah it's pretty good, but it needs more 'wukkah-wukkah'

HI Cloud,

do you play back the prerecorded audio in Session view as a loop? Please check the clip´s loop -settings, make sure it loops in full bars.

Also make sure that "delay compensation" is active in the options menu.

Please refer to the integrated "Setting up Audio I-O" lesson to find the best buffer size for your system.

For the Impulse problem: please open preferences/livepacks. Click on the "Basics" pack and uninstall it. Select "Search for Livepacks" / "Search" - the Basics should be listed as "Not installed". Click on "Install" to reinstall it. Are you able to play all Impulse presets now?

In order to apply an effect only to a certain section of a track you may either automate the effect in arrangement view (i.e. with "Device On/Off") or put the parts of the track you want to use the effect with onto another track which holds the effect.

or use racks.

There you can automate the chain parameter (chain selector) to switch from one fx chain to another completely different fx chain.

Or dummy clips! Check out the tips & tricks sticky.
As you can see, there are many ways to do the same thing in Live.
