how about we swap some techniques instead of making it a links thread?
here's a rack (v6) that's kind of spring reverb like, ive been adding to it for a while & still not what i want it to be but its getting there. Play with the flanger time to get a lush variable spring sound

Thank you. I try to make my mixes an expression of what I like about authentic vintage dub.FORMAT wrote:Great mixes on here! Thanks!kramer wrote:authentic dub:

Nifty little rack mr. Chaloin. Exactly what I needed for the project I´m working on!!! I was tearing my hair out trying to get just that sound!Meef Chaloin wrote:how about we swap some techniques instead of making it a links thread?

Now for my question to all you dub-heads from a complete noob:
Skanks.
I´ve been playing around with dub for some time and I think I got the drums and bass down, in the sense that I can click around and twist dials and stuff and eventually get something I like, but as soon as I try to put a skank in they sound just...bad....
I got some guitar skank samples(don't play myself), but basically all I know about skanks is that you put them on the 3´s. What is in your opinion the key to making good-sounding skanks both music theory and production wise?
P.S I´m also a noob to music theory in general, so please be gentle

glad you liked it, like i said its not quite there yet, im thinking maybe adding a reverb after seeing the covert ops dub delay video. flanger definitely helps but needs a certain something....john gordon wrote:thanks for the reverb meef!!!
skanks....well, i play so dont really have problems in that area. Are you choosing the right chord? is it textural or chordal the problem you have? It could be that you are just using the wrong chord, a minor instead of major or something like that.
really depends on what kind of skank you want & what style of dub you are making, from guitar perspective there's a few ways of playing them, are you after a full open chord skank or a muted percussive sound?
i might be able to record some but id need to know what chords, what kind of sound & what kind of skank you'd want. and i dont know how 'good' they'd be...
my new tune "kerala" uses Meef's "springy rack"....................
check it out at reggaedubwise.
Thanks to Meef for that.
