OT: Problems burning CDs with iTunes
I've been digitizing my library of LPs, 45s & 78s on an ongoing basis.
Workflow:
1) Bring analog into the box at 24/96. Edit into individual tracks using Sound Forge, preserving original spacing (for LPs) of tracks, i.e., each new track (file) begins just before first modulation.
2) Use iTunes to burn to CD, down-converting to redbook on the fly - no dither or anti-aliasing. No gaps between tracks.
Recently, iTunes is mis-applying the breaks between tracks. e.g., the head of track 2 will show up on the tail of track 1 - cutoff from the rest of track 2.
Has anyone else had this problem? What software (PC) do you use to burn CDs?
I've also tried down-convert/dither prior to burn using Sound Forge. iTunes still screws up.

iTunes sucks, use Nero or CD architect to burn your CDs they are proper burning programs.

Try to burn as data CD not as audio CD.

..........
Red book is 16-bit 44.1kHz so that is the only way you will burn an audio cd.
You could author DVD-Audio if you really wanted.......

Yeah, CD audio is 16/44 you can't make an audio CD at higher resolution and even if you could, it wouldn't play anywhere, I don't see why you can't burn them as data, the quality is still preserved because there's not any change in the files they are just copied to the CD and remain the same as are now in your hard drive just WAV files, I even think is better because burning them as audio you'll have to convert them again to WAV to change the resolution. The only way Nero or any burning software can handle that resolution is to buy the tracks as data.

<deep breath>
1) Please read the original post. I'm well aware that audio CDs are 16/44...
2) I don't WANT a data CD. I can play 24/96 files from the box through a pair of Adam A7s and they kick major ass. However, the idea is to make the best AUDIO CD that will be playable through a consumer CD player. That obviously requires .cda files at redbook.
3) The reason behind ingesting at the higher bit depth/resolution is to maintain the quality ALONG THE PROCESSING CHAIN. (editing, etc.) If you read the original post, I down-convert at final burn. iTunes will recognize 24/96 - but it's been fucking up the placement of the breaks between tracks when using the "no gap" between tracks preference.
If no one can answer the question about Nero 8, that's fine. But, please don't digress and add 2¢ because you only read the next to last post in the thread.
