I've been reading through some threads about Live CPU overloading way to easily and I've been having the same problems on my Macbook Pro. All of a sudden, After using Live 6 for over a year, I can barely run a grand piano track and strat track with effects without hearing gaps and glitches.
A few different people (and Ableton Support) said the way to fix this was Coolbook. I don't fully understand the program, but I've read that the settings are as follows:
2400Mhz at 1.1500v, Medium Throttling and temp limit of
75 degrees C.
I puchased Coolbook, and it only goes up to 2171Mhz in the the pull down menu. I can't seem to find 2400Mhz, unless 2004Mhz was meant instead, or there is some other way to input values. I'm still peaking at 100% or more (then settling around 80%) at 8 tracks on the Performance Test Arrangement.
I'm using:
MacBookP Pro 2.16GHz Intel Core Duo
2GB RAM 667 MHz DDR@ SDRAM
Mac OS X 10.4.11
Live 6.0.10
Current Coolbook Settings:
ADAPTER,
2171MHz at 1.2625v
Throttling at Very High, max Temp 75C
BATTERY, Default
Can anyone help me out? This is very frustrating to me, and I have had the time to dive deeper into the forums to find out more. thank you.

Wow, major difference! Yeah when Airport is off, it runs like it used to. I guess it was an Airport bug. How do I fix that? Just not use be online when I'm using Live? Also, I still have Coolbook installed, with the same settings I listed earlier... should I uninstall? I still want to get more CPU out of Live. When I did the performance test with Airport off, I had 64% at 8 tracks with only a couple small glitches in the beginning (and 74% spikes), and about 54% and 6 tracks with no gaps or glitches.

hey, i also have a 2.16GHz MacBook Pro, and undervolting with CoolBook has significantly lowered the voltages and temperature that my MBP runs at...
with the power adapter, i only need to have two steps:
2004 MHz at .9500 volts
2171 MHz at .9875 volts
2004Mhz is the maximum stable frequency possible at the absolute minimum voltage (.9500V), and .9875V is the minimum stable voltage possible at the maximum frequency (2171MHz on a 2.16 machine)... get it?
however, you shouldn't simply copy these values... because of manufacturing tolerances your processors may have different limits, which is why you have to go through all the trial and error steps to find the best values for your machine... the CoolBook app will run a quick basic test, but to be sure you should download the CPUTest app and use it to stress test your system with the lowered voltages...
