echo indigo dj & windows vista nightmare

Post by stockylocky » Sat May 10, 2008 8:28 pm

Hi peeps,
Just got through installing all of ableton onto my new laptop and then tried to use my echo indigo dj with it to no avail.... arrrggh
Im really hoping one of you tech guys will be able to help, preferably someone using the echo card with vista. It would be amazing if someone could take me through how to set it up right.

My set up
Dell Latitude D830
Intel(R)Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7500 @ 2.20GHz 2.20GHz
4gig ram, 160gb 7200rpm
Window Vista Business
Echo indigo Dj Drivers 8.2 version

Ableton working fine (though crap audio) through laptop speakers
then install drivers
Insert card, blue light on - looks good...
then tried to load ableton which kept hanging while trying to change to ASIO
Ableton not responding message keeps appearing and black screen so i give up
I go to soundcard on vista and laptop one and start to test the indigo virtual outs
1/2 it says failed to make sound
3/4 it says are working but there is no sound

Aaaaaaaaaaaaah can anyone help me out there, Id really appreciate it??
Cheers alan

Hi there

Sounds like the problems I had with vista and indigo DJ

I assume you have gone into 'console three' settings for indigo?

What seemed to sort it out was switching from using virtual outputs 3/4 and 5/6

to 5/6 and 7/8

I also downloaded newer drivers from the echo website (bizzarely not the newest ones, but the third newest ones - go figure)

It took me a lot of fiddling to sort out - but seems stable enough now, but don't accidentally pull the caed out whilst live is still loaded, this seem to cause crashes

Sorry the reply is all over the place, hope it is of some use!

I will certainly check that tomorrow, thanks for replying.
Just to check what version of drivers are you using now??
Also how is your system, u know with all the scare storys about vista and muic applications?
Is there anything you advise to improve performance?
Cheers Alan

Indigo IO / DJ work really great on XP SP2. Echo have Vista and WaveRT drivers for this card on their website, are your drivers the most current?

Your biggest problem is Vista - piece of *@#$ o/s for music and Microsoft don't care less about it, they seem to have surrendered the initiative to Apple a while ago and they're already working on the next o/s, Vista is in danger of becoming as bad as the bastard child of o/s Windows ME.

Hmm

using driver 7.3

couldnt get my machine to work with 8.2

vista less stable than xp2 (I never had any problems with Windows ME btw)

therefore nervous about trying 8.2 again

however my vista machine working ok with Live 7.0.5, Soundforge 8 and Making waves 5.43 now.

The problem isn't entirely Vista, it's also companies that had forever to write drivers for it, but who dallied or couldn't be bothered. The amount of gear rendered obsolete by the o/s change over is just frightening (mac users will know this as they switched os9 to osx and then ppc to intel, leaving a lot of great stuff stuck behind and unuseable).

However, some have people XP and Vista dual booted and for the things that do work in Vista the majority of comparisons show XP has a better performance on music apps.
