[OT] Just bought Roland Juno 106
Just got a freshly serviced Juno... very excited to use it.
Any words of wisdom?
I had to pay a pretty penny dont want to say how much, but I wanted to make sure it was in good working order. Smart move?

Sold my 106 to my good buddy becuase he loved it so much and got myself a midi'd 60.
They're great bass and pad machines. Nothing beats that punchy bass that we all love.
Even though they're mono DCO, that sub-osc makes a huge difference.
The biggest problems with 106's is that a voice or two goes out; the bitch is that replacement chips are hard to find.
Have a blast.

Very true, i snagged one off ebay for $350 a long time ago. Eventually tho like 3 of the 6 voices burnt out on me. It cost me like $500 to fix that damn thing tho.
I remember there is a way tho to set the 106 into a mono mode for some ultra phat bass sounds.

Yep - haven't used a 106 for years but, iirc, it was something to do with holding down 'transpose' while turning on, to put it into testmode, and then selecting one of the Poly options. That assigned the 6 voices to unison...roach808 wrote:I remember there is a way tho to set the 106 into a mono mode for some ultra phat bass sounds.

Yep, you hold down the 1 and 2 buttons together and it puts it into mono, which steps around the voice chip problem kinda..roach808 wrote: I remember there is a way tho to set the 106 into a mono mode for some ultra phat bass sounds.

I bought a beautiful 106 for $200 bucks about a year ago. I love it besides the fact that you can't control all the parameters by midi. it's great for everything though, bass, pads, use the noise and filter env cleverly to make high hats and snares. self oscillating filter can be used for kicks.
No problem yet with the voices (knock on wood)
it's amazing how square waves can actually sound different on synths without using their filters in the least. testing my 106, mc-202 and nord lead back to back and you can hear a massive difference even with a plain ol' dry square wave. it's weird and i can't explain it....

It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.

obviously, but in theory they are supposed to be perfect voltage controlled waveforms aren't they? I mean a squarewave is supposed to be a perfect square right? wouldn't that sound the same always?Tarekith wrote:Not all OSC's are the same
