Using Autopan to emulate "ducking" sidechain

Post by dazzer » Sat Apr 21, 2007 5:37 am

In the absence of a free sidechain compressor for Mac, someone posted a tip about using Autopan to get a basic duking effect.

And now I can't find it.

Any help please?

Set autopan on the bass to every quarter note if your kick is on the quarter notes, it's a way of 'faking' the bass cutting out when the kick hits.

Being a lazy git, I was hoping for a full set of instructions!

But I set it to quarter notes like you said, played around and got the effect I was looking for.

Cheers Tone!

If you want more control, there's an even better way to do a repeated ducking effect than autopan -- use a clip volume automation that is unlinked from the clip, and 1 beat long (or 2, or whatever). Draw the duck of your choice.

Btw there is one free sidechain compressor for the mac, which might work for what you want: DualComp.

LMAO...Man, i rarely laugh out loud while reading forums, but this was one of those times. Maybe you should create a whole songs with the chords made from animal shapes.

Also nice to use it with a guitar to "delete" its attack.
