OT OSX util to click window/select save location?

I used to have something waaaay back in OS9 that whenever an open/save dialog appeared you could simply click in any open window in the finder and that window location would automatically appear in the open/save dialog, saved tons of clicking around. Anyone know of anything similar in OSX?
