Isn't that the most amazing thing, going from one generation to the next. Youtube is simultaneously the greatest thing ever and the worst. You can find a video on every pseudo scientific or bullshit claim, and have "experts" on the subject. The next generation is fucked!

Sitchin's work is a masterpiece of linguistic maneuvering and allegorical interpretation. He is clearly well-read in the archeology and mythology of ancient Sumeria and related lore. His work conflicts, however, with mainstream archeological opinion. In fact, in Usenet discussions of Sitchin's work, several well-published, respected archeologists familiar with this period have called Sitchin a fool and an idiot (but in less polite terms). While he's well-read, he lives in his own little world when it comes to translation of ancient texts. He also takes certain liberties in his translations and interpretations that are not usually allowed by the scientific community. His work completely falls apart, also, when modern science is brought to bear. Sitchin's interpretations of Sumerian Epics and other writings describe events that simply couldn't have happened. This guy could write a good script for a new Indian Jones film, but instead chooses to create bullshit for literal interpretation. He also completely misinterprets the definitions of annunaki and elohim when archaelogists have a very clearly defined answer to what these things mean. I've seen Contact (incredible movie) and Independance Day, but not the others. George Lucas is obviously well read in esoteric literature. I do not, however, think this lends/detracts any credibility whatsoever to these views.

This site brings up some great points about Sitchin's work...I think I've posted before. You know, there are other interpretations of the verses you point out besides aliens. Usually the Nephilim and Anak are seen as offspring of angels and women. To me, it is possible to explain these verses from within orthodox theology, whereas it is not possible to explain the incredible depth of philosophy within the Bible outside of orthodox theology. So, to me, talk of aliens, Christ myths, and sun-worship is rather silly.
