Is this the new thing to just go online and sell peoples work without permission. Can we go online and sell Ableton live as well without permission too? What has this World come too.Does anyone have morals anymore? Has greed really come above this planet?

I confirm it too
This is an email from Taylor Deupree

hi all,

i emailed jetgrooves and find out why they were selling our material illegally. i received a nice form letter back (not even personally addressed) and this is their explanation for illegally putting our titles on their site:

"The experince of showing your music on our website without distributing
aimed to draw your attention to us, with further goal to make contacts with
you on friendly term"

what a way to grab our attention, eh? they really need a better way to get a label's attention (such as... emailing them! what a new concept).. other than putting false information up to trick customers (and labels) into thinking we have agreements.

please do not patronize this site.

got a reply from these cheaky bastards;

Dear Sirs and Madams,

My name is Ulukman Mamytov and I am the attorney for jetgroove.com.

I bring you apologies from JetGroove for making you worry about your
copyrights infringements and your music repertoire being presented on our
website. I want to assure you that jetgroove.com having started a new Online
Music Download Service pursues the objective of making your music more
wellknown and accessible and ONLY BY LEGAL MEANS.

That means we DO NOT SELL any of your music without obtaining a proper
permission (License) from you or other respective rightholders. You can
easily check this by trying to purchase any of you music. Everything that
you choose to put in your cart will have status: "Not Available For Purchase
Yet". It could only be put "ON HOLD". And we do not change that status
untill the contract is signed and your permission is granted. In this case
all of your music will be given "Allowed for Selling" status and people who
have it in their shopping carts will be able to buy it.

The experince of showing your music on our website without distributing
aimed to draw your attention to us, with further goal to make contacts with
you on friendly terms with a perspective of mutually beneficial partnership.
We're glad to inform you that your music is getting popular indeed through
our website and we can let you know at any time how many of your tracks were
put on hold and which ones.

However, we deeply understand your concerns and would like to assure you, if
you find our relationships impossible, we will IMMEDIATELY delete all of
your music from our music collection.

Hope you'll find our offer to make your music more popular through us rather
reasonable and we can start that mutually beneficial partnership.

Very Truly Yours,

Ulukman Mamytov

I have a similar problem with a russian company selling several of my albums on their sites. I have not had any success in contacting them.
I also had no success in complaining to the GEMA which is the german musical rights organisation i belong to. They told me their hands are pretty much bound. Well, times are chainging...

I run small time electro label 'Molotov Records' and I found one of my labels releases on jetgroove.com. However what thier lawyer said to claudek appears to be true.

I tried to purchase the release http://www.jetgroove.com/release/12387/ ... yl_VA.html and at checkout it says "These tracks are not available yet".

So apparently I cant get too angry. I do however find it rather strange that they put stuff on thier site that they are unable to sell but then again I guess it makes sense as far as a marketing stand point. They could then contact the labels/artists....and say we have so and so many people interested in purchaseing your music through us for this much and you would get this much from it....this is what we can offer to do for you etc. But I wonder what they do....do they wait and contact you or do they wait for the labels/artists to realize thier music is on the site and then angrily contact them before they explain what is going on. It would make much more sense to contact the artists/labels before hand. I dunno its just weird. I was surprised to find such an obscure release such as the one from my label on thier site. Hmm.

Perhaps it is a ruse to get enough traffic (of angry producers) flowing to their site so that they can provide impressive page hit figures to advertisers!

"Hey look, we hadn't even opened for trading and we received over a million hits per week!"

Sadly, It's the same old same old -

*my first Record company sneakilly put out white labels of my stuff after I left

*My second label declared bankruptcy so they didnt have to pay, but then pressed up albums and then sold them through Amazon

*My third label was me - I'd had enough. Now it was my turn to rip me off!

BTW - they have mine on that site too.

They do not have the right to offer our music as streamings without our legal consent.

streaming clips w/ out consent is illegal. they also have a lot of mp3s up there that have never been formally released.. things that have never even been pressed. so they are probably trolling slsk and then turning around 'prepared' to sell them

Right, it's confirmed now, they are from Moscow but their web server is in
Canada and they have one of them 'rent-o-box' post boxes in London and their
other London address does not exists. The 0870 number they list is a BT
business line that obviously diverts aboard.

Its also pretty obvious they are getting everything from Soulseek or other
such file sharing networks because of the stuff they have listed and the way
they list it. (but its ok, cas I'm sure they go out and buy the records
right? Oh oh, lets not go there)
