ten albums you bought this year...

Post by j2j » Thu Jul 17, 2008 1:56 am

Just curious,

What have you bought lately? Why? Who are listening too? Watching mtv much? Your last concert?

( not your show you dj'd - not a party you crew/put together )

What was the last concert you went to... ( I'll accept wicked famous electronica acts - but not a saturday night spot )
too many lasers...

Last concerts:

-Infected Mushroom: too short set, liked them more the last time.

-Beastie Boys, Jarvis Cocker, M.I.A. (eww but awesome stuff happened), The Cribs (made me believe in rock again. I won't care for your rock band anymore unless you end up bleeding profusely), and a bunch of other smaller acts.

-Daft Punk

Last albums:

- Propellerheads - Decksandrumsandrockandroll (long overdue)
- Thievery Corporation - sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi (had to get it after Tarekith's DJ set)
- DJ Logic - Zen of Logic
- Sia - Colour the Small One (get this for some awesome vocals)
- Dot Allison - Afterglow
- Beastie Boys - Hello Nasty (in awesome condition for 1 buck)
- Chemical Brothers - Dig your own hole and Surrender (long overdue too, DYOH > Surrender)

I don't really remember the order of the rest. I don't buy as many albums as I'd like to :(

I haven't been to a concert for maybe 15+ years.

I have not bought a CD in the last year.

Our local music channel is bollocks. Don't watch it.

I have not been stoned since 1982.

I am telling the truth.

So far this year...

Ellen Allien - Sool
Black Dog - Radio Scarecrow
Spiritualized - Songs in A & E
Elbow - The Seldom Seen Kid
Neon Neon - Stainless Style
Aphex Twin - Classics
Lowfish - Burn the Lights Out
Malcolm Middleton - Sleight of Heart
Boogybytes Vol4 - Mixed by Ellen Allien
Apparat - Things to be Frickled

All great - go buy them all! :D

Live:Radiohead (great), Chemical Brothers (dull, unfortunately), Malcolm Middleton (great), Holy Fuck (great), The Proclaimers (yes, really, I was expecting something cult cool, for some reason, but it wasn't really...), Henry Rollins Spoken Word (great, as usual), Underworld (stunningly good), Billy Bragg (right-on), and a pile of Philharmonic gigs and gigs from friends' bands.

Good year for music so far! :)

The last time I bought 10 albums or more in a YEAR was 1998.

I stopped watching MTV in 2001, it had already been shite for several years and then just started gumming up the screen with crap reality shows and game shows for 14 year old girls.

I much prefer to download free albums (legally free, like on Jamendo etc) or buy the odd independent release, most major label music is crap these days.

Bought most recently: "Knowle West Boy" by Tricky

Why?: Why not, its a great album. Go buy it!

Who am I listening to?: The Beat, Specials and Selecter (having a bit of a ska phaze at present,.... harking back to me youth and all that) Also at present listening to Zappa, Monkey Mafia, Chris Liberator, Benga and Burt Jansch.....

MTV?: Get off the air! (sorry, my punk roots force me to have contempt for corporate music TV)

Last Concert: 'The A-Heads' http://www.myspace.com/wessexaheads (reletively succesfull 80's punk band fro my area, just re-formed/had mid-life crisis ) Messy drunk mosh-up, made me fell old and young all at the same time. Still got the brusies and back-ache.

Also went to see Ziggy Marley with the wife in Bristol a few months ago for those wanting something more mainstream.
