comping with loop brace

Post by thuzen4bWbQnXr » Sat Jul 19, 2008 11:01 pm

i'm going to give this a try. it's a little confusing right now but i can see where you're going with it...by keeping the loop brace the same amount, you can just go back one "take" and select it in the new duplicate track and it syncs up.
thanks

It's harder to read than do ;-)

It's the positions of the Clip START and STOP markers that's important here. The loop brace is just convenient because it can jump in segments equal to its current size.

What's most special to me in this technique is using the LOOP button to synchronize the Start/Stop markers to the new position of the loop brace. I think it works best moving from Last Take to first. You can work from first to last but you have to change the order of the steps. I've read the manual many time and I don't think they mention this anywhere.

Live seems to fall short on Tools to position these markers.

Pitch Black wrote:As another user mentioned, one feature that Live has that many other DAWs don't, is the ability to duplicate tracks (complete with the routing settings and plugins). Click on the track title then cntrl-D / apple-D.

Once you have your initial track set up how you want for recording, make a few quick duplicates and record on those.

OK, it's not a complete "comp takes" function, but it makes setting up tracks for recording multiple takes very quick and painless.
Thanks for the tip. I've been wondering about this.

Composite tracks would be sweet.
(The submitter should update the title of this post to "Vocal Composite tracks; I thought it was about compression)

YES!!!

I would like to see Ableton handles 'multiple takes' and 'loop recording' simmilar to Reaper.

1. Every loop to be as a new file either on the hard drive or just as a audio clip or slice (arrangemetn view).
2. Choose how to be viewed all the recorded takes: either one above/below another, one after another or the last on top of the previous (on top)
3. Crossfades now are not so intuitive. They just have to be clip based (and stay into the clip!), not so envelope based as they are now

This is a missing feature that keeps me away from buying ableton for last 6 years.

Maybe it would be great to integrate this into the looper ... I think it is a shame that it really overdubs and not like NI Guitar Rig make a buffer for each turn ..

Make a new mode and allow the looper to have an up window (like sampler and spectrum) for editing takes ....

best

This is definitely one of the features that seperates Ableton Live from the pro DAWS. I'd love to see this feature!

seriously, why has this feature still not been implemented?

echoing what a previous user said... we don't need anymore instruments/fx... sure they would be nice, but we've already got 3rd-party plug-ins that can do the job. i'd personally appreciate more resources put into the DAW features that plug-ins can't provide.

this is a really crucial feature and i'm surprised that it still hasn't been implemented yet. it makes me think that maybe this feature wish-list forum isn't the best way to find out what users really want. just forums alone are an out-dated medium for this sort of thing. has anyone thought about implementing the "economy method"? you know... where each user gets a certain amount of "points" which they can use to vote for different feature requests. and big expensive requests cost the user more points to vote for than small requests. it's a good way to get an accurate reading of what your users really want based on the amount of resources you have for making feature changes/add-ons.
