I don't get the Evolver
I don't get the Evolver
This seems to be on a lot of people's top 10 must have hardware lists and I have yet to see or hear something that would put it on my top 10 anything list. What am I missing? and any audio or video links would be helpful (which I will check after work)

Apart from being great value, it's the quirks I like the most, I like being able to trigger the sequencer and oscillators with audio signals. The sequencer is great too once you get the editing software, you can come up with really unique progressions. As is being able to draw your own digital waveforms and save them to the evolver. I didn't like the filters at first but they're great once you get used to them.
A lot of the presets are cack though.

Some of those examples sound more impressive then the ones I've tripped over but there seems to be a huge difference, at least visually and available control, between the desktop and the full keyboard version. Is it safe to say the desktop version is way watered down? The demos I've seen that didn't impress me are usually done with the desktop model.

it's scaled down, but not even near watered down..beats me wrote:Is it safe to say the desktop version is way watered down? The demos I've seen that didn't impress me are usually done with the desktop model.
why I love it;
- 99% of the time you think you're dealing with a poly synth..
because each oscillator can be modded independently, it's a sonic beast..
portamento, pitch, waveshape, etc, etc, all modded independently..
- amount of modulation sources and destinations is insane..
almost anything can mod anything..
don't be fooled by the GUI.. loads of under the hood features there..
- sonic spectrum is incredible due to the 2 digital oscillators that complement the 2 analogs..
- the matrix interface looks hard to deal with but is mastered within a week..
great for hours long couch doodling.. amazing sound after amazing sound within a breeze..
you don't even know where to start recording those fantastic loops..
- built-in effects.. the delay is superb..
- 4 sequencers that can act as modulation sequencers as well..
- analog LP filter.. complemented with a digital HP..
editor: great and cheap..
