OT: Best place to download videos

Post by brightonalex » Wed Aug 20, 2008 12:53 pm

Hello. I am going on a long flight and I want to fill my Creative thing with videos.
I want the american Office series 3 which will see me all the way to the States and back - but itunes wnat £40 ($80) for it!

Limewire just sent me into a rage because it takes so long, and times out and all the rest of it, so I don't mind paying.

But is there a cheaper, legal place to download things like that?

I can't convert from bought DVD's can I - they are protected is that right?

THANKS.

there is plenty of software out there for ripping commercial "protected" DVDs...

the legality of doing so depends on where on the ridiculous global gameboard you live... it's quite hazy in most jurisdictions, making copies for fair personal use is generally ok...

I'm not so fussed about legality - just reliable and cheap!

Piratebay.

Nothing like legal, but has the beauty of having comments for each dowload so you can get an idea of the quality before you d-load.

Just dont be naughty and download music apps, make money from them as this makes baby jesus cry.

Cheers. My plan is to buy the actual DVDs, and download the software for converting them. Then if I get bored of the DVD I can always sell it on Ebay, which I can't do with a download/

http://www.xtvi.com/

i normally get the episodes the day after they are aired in the USA, here in Paris.

there's tonnes of sites like this one, but xtvi has always been solid for me.

i dont agree about the american office. It should be watched in it's own context, and not as a copy of the UK version. The cast have their own merits, as does the script.
i LOVE the UK version, and at first was uneasy about the american one.
The first ep was an homage to the uk one i think, after that it started to go down it's own route. It's as american as the english one is english, and should be viewed as such.
It's worth watching just for Dwight Schroot alone!

I thought NBC stopped doing business with Apple and therefor The Office is no longer available through itunes.

At any rate, DVD movies are a snap to rip BUT from my experience DVDs of TV shows with multiple episodes are a giant pain in the ass in my experience. They are generally split into parts. So what you get is serveral movie files per episode. But maybe there is some fancy software that can do it no problem.

If you are looking for entertainment I highly recommend Arrested Developement, all 3 seasons available on itunes and I think $20 - $30 per season....worth every penny.
