I honestly think this situations pretty funny and filled with cheese, but at the same time its just a gig. You can say f*ck it and go play some records or cd's for fun. It doesn't have to be that big of a deal. I understand that his move is a d*ck move, but a gigs a gig, you could maybe just go play for the fun of it. Unless its totally not worth it to you, then screw it.

guys, it's sorted. the bpm restrictions still stand but an extra ableton rig is now allowed as long as the set-up is kept well clear of deadmau5's rig and sfx unit.

seems like crossed wires with agent and manager. his agent was still not happy about extra set-up but caved in when persuaded the set-ups would be far enough apart.

Fuckin' hell! I thought this kind of attitude was reserved for musicians.

But DJs?

just in case my earlier post was missed:

the problem is sorted. they are allowing an extra laptop set-up as long as its well clear of deadmau5's rig.

perhaps crossed wires with agent about proximity of two ableton set-ups on the same night? who knows.

hate to say it but it sounds a little like the original request had the intention or meaning of something more like:

"there isnt enough room for 2 laptop/live 'rigs' at the venue - so can the winner please use the CDJs"

that sounds more reasonable to me - perhaps that was the message that got mis-communicated...perhaps by a not - too well informed manager who has the idea that all Live set-ups are as extensive as the Deadmau5 set-up. Which they obviously aren't...

It just seems so ridiculous otherwise - to ban the use of Live. I seriously doubt Deadmau5 would do that intentionally for creative or competitive reasons. Whatever people have heard about him - the chances of someone intelligent enough to make his music to pull a hissy stunt like that are pretty slim - even if he does try to make a few extra bob on ebay signing his gear... He came across as a decent guy when I saw him interviewed.
I think its a bit unfortunate how quickly everyone jumped to conclusions and onto the bandwagon to slate him. Although I was shocked - I couldnt quite believe it...And I dont even like his music that much or anything...

I hate to say it but perhaps the OP should have contacted them for clarification BEFORE starting a slagging match on the forum. But whatever - it did seem like a bit of an injustice...and was fun while it lasted

Good luck OP with the gig :P

What's weird is this idea that he's the only human being in the world who owns LIVE

what if in 1997 the headliner was like, "You can't use technic 1200's" you have to use cassettes

Oh well, any publicity is good publicity but really this is just bad pub -
