DJs: how locked into a genre are you?
If you're a DJ, what guides what tunes you'll drop in a set?
How many of you "only play Detroit minimal" or "only play Helsinki House" or "only play African Meepy Flop"?
I guess the genrefication of music really bugs me. I don't get it.

in all seriousness, I can't DJ sober. all my mistakes sound huge, I get flustered, overthink etc. I hit my peak at 3-4 beer.Dougie Jones wrote:In which case alternatives are availableSilverfish wrote: thank you for that gem of wisdom, however I have a problem: I won't touch alcohol (never have, never will).
being in the state that your listeners are in will help you connect more.
so I don't recommend being high unless thats the crowd your playing to.
caffine is a legitimate alternative as well, at least for me. helps me focus on my set.
aaaaaannnnd back on track, i've been holing up in psychedelics stuff recently. slow, hard, trance ambient and psybreaks/dub. theres not much market for that around here tho

lol... okay, another question:
Roughly what percentage of people that DJ or listen to electronic music do drugs regularly? I love all kinds of electronic music, but, like alcohol, I've never done a drug in my life. (in case you're wondering, I try to get the point across to other people that what they do with their body is their decision, not mine.... drink, smoke, snort, shoot away).

You might as well start a whole other thread for that question.Silverfish wrote:lol... okay, another question:
