How many of you only use hardware for live gigging?
Do any of you only use hardware when gigging?
i.e. no laptop, just good old hardware samplers, synths, fx etc.
If so, what are you using and what kind of music?
It'd be quite interesting to find out.
I'm performing some slow-mid tempo breaks and electronic beats.
I haven't taken the plunge using Live on stage yet, even though I do all my beats on it.
just did my first gig this weekend and my setup incl:
Roland SP606 groovesampler
Korg KAOSS PAD 3
bass guitar (with BOSS OCT, WAH and DIGIT SYNTH pedals)
4chl BEHRINGER mixer
1x turntable (with vestax PMC-06 mixer) for scratches
just got a microkorg to add to the setup.

I do, mostly because it's a pain in the ass the carry around all my computer hardware (even with a laptop). I feel this will change in the future but for now, it's mostly out of laziness...
For my live setup I have:
Roland AX-7 MIDI controller
KORG MS2000R (sans keyboard)
Roland Juno-G
and sometimes I bring my Yamaha digital piano...
a few pedals as well: gate, Big Muff, Boss Overdrive, etc...
I have been getting super into Max/MSP/Jitter lately, so I will have to start bringing my laptop around eventually...
Oh yeah, I guess I should say that I perform mostly improvised Metal/Jazz/Pop type things... We have a drummer and a guitarist... if we did not have drums I also have a TR-505 that I like to use (very basic but still fun)...

i used a laptop and live for a now defunkt live house act but decided for my new live drum & bass project to switch over to a hardware based setup... it didn't last for long though. i'm now back on the laptop.
the hardware i was using:
novation ks4 synth
boss sp505 sampler
nord micro modular synth
everything is played live (no loops yet) and i just found that there was always something i wanted to do that i either couldn't do or would take me days to setup.
now i'm just using reason combinators which enables me to make and setup any patch and sounds that i need. i chose reason over live as i felt it was a bit more stable and for me a little easier to follow what was happening visually whilst on stage. having to dive deep into a live rack if there was a problem would be a bit of a nightmare.
i'l definately incorporate live again if i ever need to fire off loops but i'm hoping not to have to do that in this band.

Would highly reccommend adding a good looper to your setup. I had alot of luck using an Electrix Repeater.
My fantasy right now would be the fabled new Linn Drum2, especially if it had the wicked synth on it, and a good sequencer (maybe the Korg M3). Some good reverb and Uh!
Must have a sampler, too.

mackie Onyx 1620
MoogerFooger Delay + Murf
Boss RE-20 (Roland space echo pedal)

Just curious if you guys play a pre-planned set or template or impromptu improvisations.
I've doing studio work for years but am struggling to take and create a live on stage show - a 1 man gig.
any tips

i used to use hardware and software
but there are too many clubs that hardly have enough room for a laptop and controller
kinda annoying to travel a long way with a load of equipment to then be struggling for space
i just use a laptop and nanokontrol now

Re: How many of you only use hardware for live gigging?
similar, i used to use (for a pretty long time) only a korg ER-1 and EA-1 plus the kaoss pad 1
now they are fixed installed in my studio and relicts i can't part with for sentimental reasons (up and down that i actually use them now)
now i barely play live, usually it's DJ-ing... once i get to a grip with L8 (i am just unlucky, i guess) it will hopefully change again.
and if that is the case, my setup will be super tiny, computer and one controller, done... i hate loads of gear these days, easy does it.
anything that exceeds one backpack and one power plug, sucks! in my book.
