right now im using one of the original akai mpd...works for me, but it only holds two banks... also an Evolution UC33e and MK461 MK II..... and i still have my oxygen for portability..

The Axiom 25 has been the smoothest controller in my opinion. I really like the #20 preset which Live dumps in. UC33e with BCR 2000 emulation is really good too. Got that patch from fellow here: http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic. ... highlight=

A little midi joystick with an entry button would be awesome but I don't know if this can be set. Everytime I play this annoys me the most, mousing around to trigger clips.
You can scroll vertically and horizontally with first 2 rotaries of the LV2 then pushing the left one plays a clip the second will stop it. So even without LX2 it is possible to work without mouse Used LX for mapped 16 tracks with 8 clips each (or other template 8 tracks with 16 clips each.) Monome is another option for that.
After some time I would know exactly where is what and then it is real fun to perform. You can be playing keys , guitar whatever and just hit the correct button on faderfox without getting much distracted from your playing.

i hav only one gripe with the vcm-600....the rotaries have no led feedback. my bcr which is dirt cheap has this, and im beginning to rely on those led lights telling me where things r when i switch plugins. obviouslty using 6 potential tracks, all the rotaries r purposely placed, but what about when assigning synths and using it for production. tho thinking about it thats what those 8 buttons and 8 rotaries r for. hmmm. that is pretty good. reckon it could have done with lcd strips like the novation or led feedback. both pretty useful.

It´s actually built for Video SW, but salection tested it with Ableton and it looks interesting. (Test: http://www.salection.de/blog/?p=156 )

I really, REALLY like my novation remote SL (automap 2.0 is so sweet)
I also like the action on my Axiom

and I'm also really fond of my little nocturn when I go places. its also fun in the living room. or just to plug in and look at the pretty lights

Another shout here for the Faderfoxes, my LC2 gives me great control over Live. Also my Remote SL does give me good control but it feels a bit clumsy compared to the LC2.
..?

kinda funny that the vci 600 page says "heres a demo video" and so they link a demo video for another controller. good job.

I think if you play keyboards, axioms are a perfect start, cause the keys are nice and you have plenty of faders, knobs, and pads. I love my axiom 61. If it's mainly for triggering clips, thhe new APC40 looks really nice for this !

Check the image in my sig...

is that a NIO 2/4 from novation there? if so how is it's performance on quality and latency?

It is indeed.

Sound quality is great, I really can't fault it.

Latency could be better, but it's not high enough to make a difference for me.

For the price, it offers superb value IMHO.

NI Maschine

Also works as a pad controller, doesn't require a wall wart, has an Electribe style step sequencer, and offers its own version of Session View where you can actually record automation in patterns (i.e. session view clips).
