Edit function useless?

Post by fladd » Mon Nov 01, 2004 3:12 am

Hi there!

Is it possible, that the Edit function ist quite useless? I mean, when I am in Live no other Programm kann play any audio due to the ASIO driver (which I think is everyone using).
So I have to quit Live before I can edit something in an external editor!
Is there maybe a shortcut for disabling audio in Live?
Is there any ther solution?

thanks

This would be nice. I'm not sure how easy it would be to switch driver allocation to another program, but it's true that it is pretty useless right as of now...

I dont need to hear always - if I have to normalise or boost gain a bit, if so I can use the computers internal sound, set in preferences of Wavelab. So usefullness depend on user

I can't do this in Audacity, I just can choose the soundcard there, and then it says, that it's already in use...

I have no problems using Audacity with Ableton Live. Live says "This will stop Audio. Proceed?" I have sound in Audacity. Remember to set up the routing in the preferences in Audacity.

when clicking on the edit button audacity opens, without live asking me anything. What do you mean with routing? I have Microsoft Soundmapper - Output selected, alternativly I could choose Sigmatel Audio, but this doesn't change anything.
Any Ideas?

Hm. You don't say which version of Live you're using but I have no problems with this in 4.0.x.

Yes, that is routing. Choose your soundcard here. Also make sure you are using the ASIO drivers for your soundcard in both apps Live.

You say you assume everyone is using ASIO - but are you 100% you are using it yourself? You could have it installed yet have enabled a different driver.

"Sigmatel audio" - that's an integrated sound chip, right? So you might need the ASIO4ALL drivers.

BTW - I do not get sound with Audacity if I don't tell it which sound card to use.

Yeah, it's Live 4. I can't chosse ASIO in Audacity, only that Soundmapper and the Sigmatel Audio.
In Live Asio4All is active.
Which version of Audacity do you have? Maybe there's a new one.

The strange thing is, when using SoundEngineFree as editor, the sample in Live is "offline", which is not the case in Audacity!
But in SEFree it says then, that it doesn't support the format, which is strange, because it is a wav file.

Any ideas?

Sorry, it's offline in Audacity, too, but still doesn't work!

Just out of curiosity - have you tried another app? Download a demo of, say, Zero-X BeatSlicer and see if it works there. Maybe there is a problem with the Audacity installation on your PC.

I guess it's more a pb of your audio drivers not being "multiclient", which means two applications can't use the audio interface at the same time.

What's your audio interface ?

I am using the onboard chip of my laptop at the moment. It is a sigmatel audio.
