LOL! Are ableton denying that there's an issue with Live's midi clock then? Surely with so many people telling them that it's a problem, they can;t ignore this???

what do you *actually* expect in Live 8?

- data flowing between live and max/msp through a max/msp object!
- useful song management for live performances (I twisted it by using only 6 scenes per song in only one set but...)

I won't write more open Live API cause Robert H. will destroy me with an ICBM

My guesses for what we'll likely see:

- Vocoder
- Clip crossfades
- The new Complex mode
- A new instrument, my guess is Operator v2 (xtra cost)
- dual monitor support
- improved midi mapping options
- bezier curves
- yet another (much needed) redo of the library, with a lot of new presets.

OR, I think we might see the birth of a new product continuing from where Live is now. IE, Live 7 will now be called "Studio v1" or something. Still have the same session view/live features, but rebranded to address the DAW angle it's been headed the last few years.

Either way I think we'll first get the news at Winter NAMM.

Just a guess though.

Also stretch modes for simpler and sampler. It's crazy that with all that timestretching code under the hood the only *instrument* you can access it from is Impulse.

I like the idea of a drop down menu of scalable waveforms for clip envelopes.

I have no clue what I expect, but the wikipedia entry on Ableton says:

"In March 2007, Ableton announced it was beginning a collaboration with Cycling '74, producers of Max/MSP. This collaboration will not be directly based on Live or Max/MSP, rather will combine the two companies' strengths in a new product."

Give me group tracks & the ability to choose the vst parameters & the inclusion of some suite instruments, stability, a better grid marking on the midi clip view, a better stretch algo, improve some (most?) of the effects, track colors, a mastering plugin, more rack macros with buttons as well, external midi plugins and a revamped browser. And i'm happy.

I don't ask for the lfo because it's already been hinted that is not coming.

For me it isn't even about drums...
A step sequencer can be used for all kinds of things.
If you haven't messed with a modular system, or even a modern synth
like the RADIUS for example that allows you to sequence notes and modulations, then you haven't fully experienced life...
A proper step sequencer is a step beyond an arpegiator.
Using them just to sequence drums using the X0X's as an example is only about 1/10 the story...

Right now yu can get all of the affects from clip modulation, but it would be so much cooler to be able to do it in real time using latches and knobs...

yeah there is definitely something about the interface and functionality of a step sequencer that is way more immediate and conducive to jamming

even though it is functionally very similar to the MIDI editor, it still feels very different

I would like see more versatility in track selection. My first "teacher" in the world of DAW's was Pro Tools. I really enjoy Ableton Live, but I would like to access a particular portion of Ableton by simply typing or using a MIDI controller. For instance, I want to select from measure 128.1.3 to 136.1.3 and I want to do so using my CME VX8 or my bluetooth keyboard. Accessing particular parts of tracks without using a mouse saves a great deal of time and expedites the mixing/editing process.
