The world sure is going to shit these days. What a joke that is not to have a firewire port on the macbook. I mean really, what a sick fucked up joke.

Too bad,
No FW, this is a serious deal breaker... Apple is going to make a lot of the new Notebooks somewhat *MacBook Air like*
I htink its better to go with a refurb (or a PC).
Too bad, i had the idea (and money) to switch to Mac, but now... OT but is there a cross-license for ableton if you go mac?

they want to force you to buy a macbook pro and not only a macbook. that's the "pro" thing about it. if you need firewire, then you make money with your computer, so they want you to buy the expensive product line ...

get a cheap macbook with fw-port now, and wait, sooner or later they'll have something sexy again.

fuckin capitalists ...

All fine if they had a 13" MacBook Pro in the lineup.

surely any 'home' user with a video camera needs a firewire port ?

it's not just musicians and 'pro' users, many other people have peripherals that are firewire. My girlfriend's laptop has a lacie firewire drive for backup, for instance.

I think they made a bad mistake here

not only that, one of the coolest features of a Mac is the ability to hold T and boot in firewire mode and use the laptop as a HD - that has helped me out of a few situations

I'm not bothered by the lack of FireWire on the new MacBooks.

I like the plastic MacBooks and they're still in the range. Plus plenty of people will upgrade to the new MacBooks, which should drive the 2nd hand prices of plastic MacBooks down. It would be good to see a price drop on it though.

I've got an early MacBook which I'll upgrade to a later model at some point, so its all good for me.

I've also been looking at the new macbook pro as well.
they've dropped the FW400 port, so there is only a FW800 port.
that cuts out a lot of music peripherals that rely on FW400 (soundcards, liquid mix etc)
You'll have to use USB soundcards for all new Macbooks and Macbook Pros.
What were they thinking?
...and it's mr sakitumi (too late to change profile name)...damn

nope, thanks for the info.
But even so, on my Macbook pro I use the FW400 port for my motu and FW800 port for my external HD.
I know you can also use the expresscard slot for an external HD, but it's nice to still have both FW ports, especially considering how much you pay for a Macbook Pro.

That is pretty wild. Apple the friendly company for artists. What a load of garbage. Apple is brutal.
