anyway, i'm surprised you don't dig jazz from the 70s (fusion), because there could be some things in common with your music.

70s, yes. late 70s (fusion), i don't think so... but i'm sure i missed a few records from that period of time.

this debate happens quite a bit. there are those that accept even Squarepusher as jazz and then those that think that anything made after 1972 is just shit. having grew up listening to and studying jazz i walked away from it all with the opinion that jazz is most importantly a state of mind, or at least a state of direction. not to sound like a hippy but meaning that at its most basic it is heavily reliant on the concept of the "group", all moving together in a common direction. all while exploiting the freedom of improvisation and everyone's individual "sound". that's my take on it anyway. i don't ever lock anyone out of my idea of jazz. people shit on Weather Report but it's hard to deny that they were an assembly of some of the finest JAZZ musicians ever. even Squarepusher; he's a studied jazz drummer (so is his dad i believe) and a hell of a fretless player. no matter what instruments he uses in the compositions the raw element is always there in some way. some even consider DJ Spooky a jazz musician. i think that's fine too. i think it's all about the sum of all the parts and the idea behind it more than chord progressions and taking solos and what year it is.

my friend has this record, but unfortunately i couldn't find it enywhere else . this one is always on my list of "to buy" records .

yeah, when you listen to money jungle, you can feel that these 3 guys are having a really good time.
very spontaneous music.

the 'ellington meets coltrane' album is also a very good one. these guys really listen to each other.

but heavy metal...

this record is full of energy, blues, positiveness, soul, and weirdness...
love it!
