Clip Crop: Can I damage session or arrangement?

Post by Pasha » Sun Oct 26, 2008 5:23 pm

Hi,

I just recorded a guitar solo that needs to be cropped.
I had to record it while in session view
and later I copied it into arrangement.
Now I want to crop it in arrangement view.
Do this will crop the sample in session view too or they are
actually two distinct copies?
I should know by now, but I was never in such a situation...

Nope, you can think of clips in the arrange & session views as two separate copies. They still both point to the same underlying audio file, but changing either clip's settings won't change that file. The only way you could do the kind of "damage" you're talking about is to actually open the audio file in another program and change it directly.

Thanks for reply!
I thought cropping a sample via right click actually reduced the length of the sample..
If they are copies... better!

I can see why, in this case, you like the way Live works.

But I dislike the separation b/w clip and arrange views.

Really, what I dislike intensely is the inability to edit both midi and audio clip length, in clip view. I could almost live without the arrange view at all, if there was better functionality in clip view.
