Timbaland effect?

Post by blingstef » Fri Nov 21, 2008 4:48 pm

I would like to achieve the same effect used on the main synth melody you can hear in the song ''my love'' by justin timberlake and t.i. (just youtube it and you could listen to it).
Can somebody help me achieve this effect? Thank you in advance.

you can get that exact sound with the softsynth vanguard. it was probably used for that song. i think it is a preset. the gate effect is done with the built in trancegate.

you want 2 saw waves detuned against each other.

1) load an instrument rack into a midi track
2) drag 2 'simpler's into the chain.
3) in the Live Devices column go simpler > components > spectral > and drag 'analogue saw' into both simplers in your rack.
4) detune one by about -17 (or to your taste - possible add spread too) - make sure you activate 'loop' too

thats one way to DIY with what youve got.
Or get Automat VST for free online (great lil free vst) and then on OSC 1 get up a saw wave, stack to two or three and detune.

Beat Repeat doesnt work too well without automating the gate.. but instead of that once you have a midi clip you can draw in your own volume automation (DIY gate really, but with your own pattern).

Will wack up an .als for you now......

Edit: PS - you can either add midi effect > chord and then just play one note with the right chord set, or play your own chords to taste.

also if you have FM 8 (a native instruments VST), you can produce that same effect using the appregiator with any sound. In the appregiator they have a feature where you can pick the pattern you want to appregiate.
