recommend me a firewire audio interface

Post by nit » Wed Dec 17, 2008 5:09 pm

it's time for a new soundcard. i have a fasttrack pro now but lately i'm into live sampling and i wan't more ins & outs. also i want a firewire device because i wan't to have an extra usb port free on my MBP for an extra hub.
i have 400 euro's to spend and now i'm looking at the focusrite saffire pro 10. 8 XLR in and 8 out with 2 dedicateble headphone outputs seems the best i can get in my price range. any thoughts on this interface. maybe other recommendations?
i need at LEAST 4 in and 6 out and MIDI I/O.

I bought a M-Audio firewire 410 and I have never had a problem with in on a 2/2/100 Macbook pro. I love it and I bought it 2 years ago and it's still going strong. I have played live with it at least 30 times.
8 line outs (4 stereo)
Midi I/O
Digital I/O
2 Pre amp 1/4 headphone outs....

I recommend the Alesis IO|26. Great interface. loads in inputs and outputs. Highly recommend it.

i bought the focussrite saffire pro10 and first hour spending with it i allready have a problem. when i boot up my MBP (OSX10.5.6 2,4ghz 2gb ram) and then switch on the saffire it doesn't boot up the right way. in the end the red button above the poer IO button doesn't light up. also the leds of ie dim and mute don't react. i allready tried to switch the saffire on before ooting up my MBP but it doesn't make a difference. can anybody help me?

Easy choice. If you only need 2 ins and outs get a Apogee Duet. It has the best A/D D/A converters on the market and the best Mic Pres. If you need more than 2 ins/outs get a MOTU Traveler, it is comparable.
