Can anyone recommend a drum tool?

Hi all,

I am looking for a drum tool that will give me just basic rock and ballad type beats. I am envisioning a tool that has some different kits, plus a lot of different beats that go along with them. Within each beat, there would be snippits like the beat itself, the beat with ride, fills, breaks, etc. Then I could piece together a drum track using the snippets.

Live has something like this built into it but all the beats are a little to complex for my purposes. I just need some straight boom-chick-boom- boom-chick rock and ballad beats.

The only thing I have seen that is close is Beat Monkey Music but they are audio loops. I am looking for midi-based drums so I can adjust tempo, etc.

Toontrack´s Superior Drummer comes with EZPlayerPro which allows you to mix different drumtracks (i.e. Hihat , Snare, Kick etc.). It is a quite convenient tool for that. I use it without Superior. But if you have the money (I have not), you should seriously consider Superior 2.0.

Does ToonTrack have a lot of pre-built drumbeats with it? Or just Groovemonkey?

All Toontrack products come with MIDI files. EZPlayer has more of an example like library which is a bit limited.
But if you want to nail down a certain style, the Groovemonkee stuff ist top notch. You get a lot for your money in terms of quality and quantity.

I have downloaded the groove monkey samples, but they don't sound right. They all have a lot of crash cymbal in them, which I suspect is supposed to be hi-hat. Are these not mapped right for Impulse or session drums? I have tried both. How are you playing the groove monkey clips in Ableton?

To play back properly in live, you'll need a drum kit that is mapped to the General Midi drum kit standard: http://www.computermusicresource.com/GM ... eyMap.html
