behringer bcf bcr transmit midi clock?

Post by rajcoont » Thu Nov 25, 2004 7:00 pm

hey list, does anyone using a b control unit have a setup getting sync from an external unit? I just bought one of these things, and am trying to get my drum machine to control live's tempo like i have with every other midi controller i've used, but it doesnt seem to work....i am now worried this just can't be done with this machine. I'm emailing behringer as well, but thought maybe some peeps on the list can get back to me as well

Yes, I have the same problem as you. Any sync signal shows up on the IN-LED, but is not recognized by LIVE. Please let me know what Behringer says.

strange... i use it the other way. I use a BCR2000 as a MIDI interface and output MIDI clock from Live to my synthesizer. Works fine that way, so I don't understand why it wouldn't work for an external device to send MIDI clock to Live. Have you messed around with the different operating modes on the Behringer? Certain setups disable certain ins and outs. Might be worth playing with.

;)

Believe me, I know what I'm doing. I need USB-Mode 3 for this and I have also selected the right BCR-Port.

I hooked up a Doepfer Stepsequencer to the BCR Input. All notes and controllerchanges showed up normally, except where there should be a lot of F8 for MIDI-Clock there are only 00 00 00, which MIDI-Ox recognizes as unknown Event.

well i'm not happy to hear that others experience this as well.....how could they leave something that obvious out? I have tried a lot of options and i am starting to think it's just not possible. I knew i shouldn't have attempted to retry behringer gear

will post when i hear back from them

same problems here...
wanted to sync two macs with both behringer controllers... no f"/&%* way...
wrote to behringer, but I'm not shure they understood what I meant... they didn't even know that a programm called "ableton live" exists.. ignorants! but still, it's a wonderful controller...
here's the answer from behringer:

our specialist tried and camo to what follows:
Connect B-Control #1 via USB ( USB Mode 4) with the laptop #1, then go via midi out B to B-Control #2 midi in ( mode s4 for 2nd B-Control), then via midi out B to laptop #2.

but I guess the second person would have to have a midi interface, which is stupid!
please, someone phone them up, befor they stop making new versions!

"Thanks for writing.
MIDI data should pass through the MIDI THRU port on the BCF2000 without being hindered, Jason. Did this problem happen to turn out to be a bad MIDI cable or configuration/setup issue? Let me know if it did not, and I will attempt some tests. In this instance, please provide more detail about your routing and setup, and I will try to duplicate it as best I can here.
We hope that we have been able to help you with this information.
Best regards,
Your BEHRINGER Customer Support Team

Here is what i got as a response...i get the feeling this person doesn't have a clue what i asked.....i remember why i like to buy from small companies now. I've ended up buying a USB hub and using my midiman 2x2 interface to hook up my drum machine and putting the behringer on it's own port.......not an ideal solution but at least it works. the bcf is a pain in the ass to program too, but it still is bang for buck the best controller out there

Yes, yes, you are SO right! The so called "support" doesn't have any clue! I just received this mail, I try to translate it:
Right, MIDI-IN does not accept wordclock. MIDI-IN can just accept and transmit Timecode. We will forward your suggestion to put a separat MIDI-Clock Input to our R&D
Wordclock. Sure.... What's an R&D btw?

They're complete bullshitter's aren't they? It's like their support team is a call centre with no working knowledge of the products, just a document with a bunch of replies on it they cut and paste in response at random

Hi,

get a few of those "M-AUDIO UC-33e USB-MIDI Controller" and you're well set and done. They're really plug 'n play for stupid non-tech lovers like me, and they're cheaper, too.

They sent me the the OS as well, unfortunately my mailserver deleted the attachement, but my BCR is in repair at the moment, so hopefully the official OS will be released until it is back. Nice to know that they know now about the problem.

but they don't have fader/knob feedback witch is the strong part of these controllers...

hope this 1.08 works....i have to say, after using this thing extensively for a couple weeks now, it's easily the best controller i've ever used. its incredible it's so affordable, it's really leagues ahead of the UC33. if it can pass midi clock in it's next firmware update i will have 0 complaints, but as i plan to buy a bcr to compliment it, it will be a moot point, as i'll have to continue use my other midi interface to get midi clock in wiht the BCF and BCR being linked together

I've checked the 1.08 it today and it seems to work!
I've synched two computers (MACs) with only the bcr's connected... I've had to activate USB mode 4 on both models and put the midi out cable on channel 2!
one of the units was acting a little strange, but I could be wrong... didn't have enough time!

just be shure to change the USB mode BEFORE plugin the unit in...

If anyone else wants to try it... leave a private message...

cheers
