Any benefits of upgrading to Live 7 now?

Post by Korhan » Fri Jan 16, 2009 4:52 pm

Hi Abes,

Live 8 with Maxforlive looks very exciting! As someone who did not upgrade to Live 7 (it did not offer me any benefits for my music making), will it make a difference for me to upgrade now? Or should I simply wait for Live 8 to come out?

Best,

Korhan

Doesn't look like any discounts for upgrading now (unless you're coming from Lite/LE)

from that article:
We in fact had several users successfully upgrade from Live 6 to 7 overnight, for free. That seems to have been either some extremely particular circumstance or a server glitch.

In the ancient language of Abletonian, the actions 'buy' and 'upgrade' are two distinct actions and their distinction is key to understanding Ableton's überkompliziert buying/upgrading options. So in this case, the example given is about 'buying' live 7 and getting operator and drum racks for free. Long time Live users who upgrade to 7 will get nothing for free it seems and they will pay more for Live 8 than those people who have just bought Live 7 (I'm not 100% sure if this last statement is correct, so I need confirmation from someone)

I think this question deserves a reply from Ableton soon. Newcomers have been offered price cuts, freebies, etc but the old-timers get nothing. Actually I think we pay more for Live 8 than the newcomers, if the statements below are correct:

I will have to pay 250 USD to upgrade to Live 8 from Live 6. For Operator and Drum Machines, I will pay 240 USD extra, which will bring the total up to 490 USD.

A newcomer who buys Live 7 will pay 400 USD and get Operator and Drum Machines for free, and then pay only 60 USD more to upgrade to Live 8. A total of 460 USD.

As I customer who has paid for two upgrades (started with 4, upgraded to 5 and 6), opted not to upgrade to 7 (because 7 offered very little for me in terms of features) has to pay more (how much more is irrelevant) than a newcomer? Am I missing something? Are my figures correct?

I am definitely surprised that there is basically no discount for going from Live 6 -> Live 8.

I was expecting the usual "Upgrade to Live 7 now and get Live 8 free!" offer. Sure enough, the one time I decide to skip an upgrade is the one time they don't have a free upgrade deal :(

$249 USD seems pretty steep for an upgrade, but the feature list is indeed impressive.

Does anyone know what cost difference would be if I go 6->7 then 7->8 vs. 6->8 ?

cheers

I have Live 6 + operator and upgrading to the boxed Live 8 Suite is actually 20 Euros cheaper than upgrading to the boxed Live 7 Suite.

In view of the current economic downturn I think they should offer an "Unwaged" discount. Why should students get all the best deals.
