I just remembered that my Korg Nanokontrol came with a discount coupon for Live 7. It turned out that the coupon was good for 50 USD, which meant that I could upgrade to 7 for 69 USD, which I promptly did. If anyone among you have not yet used those coupons, maybe it's time.

I guess this means I upgrade to 8 at a discount, too.

That is not posted on the site yet, but new buyers of Live 7 upgrade for 59 USD. I assume this is valid for existing Live 7 users as well. If not, we should take Ableton to the Human Rights Court! :-)

upgrade

Post by echothat » Fri Jan 16, 2009 10:01 pm

as far as I can tell the whole can't wait for 8 gimick is the purpose of giving new Live 7 users a break on the upgrade to 8. They have an 8-week upgrade policy last I checked, but it seem version 8 won't be out until Quarter 2 so it will be longer than 8 weeks.

As for existing Live 6 and 7 users, looks like we have to shell out the 189 for download, or 229 for the box: newsletter just came out with a link to their site: http://www.ableton.com/nl199-live-8-upgrades

Bummer for me and all other long-time Live users. Fair, I don't know?

On that link the upgrade from 7 to 8 is 59 USD. Maybe you looked at a different page or something? And Live 6 to 8 is 239 USD.

Echothat, I know what the problem is. I've just bought Live 7 using that coupon, so the link you've sent displays the upgrade options for me. This confirms that Live 7 owners will be able to upgrade to Live 8 for 59 USD. The Suite upgrade costs 259USD and includes:

Live 7 to Live 8 Upgrade (Download)
Operator
Sampler
Analog
Tension
Electric
Drum Machines
Collision
Latin Percussion

Yeap. That's clear since the begining no? It's written in the "can't wait..." things page.
My tongue spits english like a frog and my head is currently searching for a comprehensive language.

It wasn't that clear unfortunately. Only new purchases of Live 7 were mentioned in that section with no clear reference to current Live 7 owners. Some people, including myself, thought that only new buyers would benefit from the discounted upgrade to Live 8.

Live 7 owners will be able to upgrade to Live 8 for 59 USD
Wow, I think I need a detailed user manual just for Ableton's pricing system

So, let me get this straight.

I have Live 6.

If I upgrade from 6->8 it will cost me 249 USD (it says this on my upgrade page)

Or if I upgrade to Live 7 now it will cost me 119 USD.
And according to posts above, the upgrade from 7->8 will then be 59 USD.

So going upgrade path of 6->7->8 will cost me a total of 178 USD and going 6->8 will cost me 249 USD

Am I right?

ableton, on can't wait for 8 page, wrote:Please note: These offers are not valid on educational products or upgrades from older full versions of Ableton Live.
sooo, if you are new, you get live7 for $399(dl)/499(box) and an upgrade to 8 for 59/99,
7 suite for 649/849 upgrade for free download, and prolly 100-300 for box.

if you have lite or le, it's 299/319-upgrade to 7, then 59/99 to upgrade to 8,
and 609/729-upgrade to 7 suite then free for download suite 8, and prolly 100-300 for suite 8 box.

now, i have 7 suite, so not sure if prices will be different for current standard 7 owners, but my upgrades to 8 and 8 suite go like this- live 8 189/229, and 8 suite 229/299. plus a $30 off coupon (rather minus=). so i imagine people who have standard 7 right now will have a slightly higher 8 suite upgrade price...

make sense?

@Korhan, if you want operator and drum machines, i'd suggest trying to get a hold of a copy of live lite (if you don't already have one lying about), and you could upgrade it to 7 for 299, and get operator/d.m., and upgrade to 8 for 59... 358 total. or go for suite, how much would that be for 6 -8, around 350-500?

Hi dcease,

I don't actually want operator or drum machines, but thanks for taking the time to suggest that route.

The thread below has more up-to-date info on pricing:

Basically it seems you get Live 8 for 59 USD if you upgrade to Live 7 now from Live 1-6.
