Agreed... I just got a Central Station and I was sooo depressed when I opened the box to find a big heavy new wart awaiting me.

It's all a part of the friendly $399 price tag though...

You can see the two 1/4" jacks here if you scroll down a tad:

The APC40 is unfortunately NOT bus powered. Due to the huge amout of LEDs, the overall power consumption is too high to get powered from a USB connection (USB can only provide a max. of 500 mA).

Dude.. Messe is on Aprils Fools day. What could possibly go wrong?

*starts planning the most elaborate hoax likely to drive this place mental*

Ableton teams up with Microsoft's Songsmith team?

If I count correctly, that's 379 LEDs which might light at the same
time, especially if you tinker around with MfL. 240 for the endless encoders, 80 for the 5x8 Matrix, etc.

They are quite bright, so even if they are low power versions and take only, let's say, 4 mA (in case of a 1:1 busy cycle), that's already 3 times the capacity of an USB link, for the LEDs alone. Wow!

Hmm ok that's interesting. No biggy though.

So can anyone confirm, did Ableton say something about the Serato thing coming to fruition in April?

Given the choice, I would have taken more buttons (and brighter buttons) over bus power anyway.

Excellent - we have the juice to power retro-fitted motorised faders!

Hehe...already thinking about all possible hacks, huh? I'd rather have mini-LEDs on every fader which show the position of the track volume controls. Another cool thing would be to use an iPod Touch / iPhone + one of these guys here:

...and use this as a display for mapped device parameters. Just need to find someone who codes the iPhone app. ;)
