live 8: new midi enhancements?
not sure I fully understand you, but I think it's a noeddu wrote:Now that we are with MIDI...can i see the content of the notes in several clips at the same time? Maybe if they are all inside the same group track? Can i see more than 1 layer of CC on the clip view (or in the arrangement its ok also).
Cheers
Bump!
I look forward to the complete list of improvements to the MIDI part of Live.
I really hope that "other improvements" comprises
a) FOLD TO KEY (based on
the present notes in a clip) and
b) MULTIPLE MIDI CLIP TRANSPOSITION.
Both should be easy peasy to implement. The latter only requires an addition
to the box in the clip view whic currently only says "X clips selected", or
something to that effect - I forget. And the former? Well, it's so rudimentary
that an explanation is redundant: create a "key" based on the current notes,
and the track folds to those notes in all octaves. It's pretty tedious having to
copy the notes up and down manually.
Easy, right? Easy!

Just imagine i wanna see which notes are being played by the bass track and at the same time i wanna see the notes that the pad or chords track are playing. So you see all the notes on a single clip view which shows the content of several clips in different tracks.
This is very useful when you have double melodies, counterpoint, or lots notes on the same tonal register spreaded thru different tracks (think of a heavy orchestrated track for instance), so you can check you are not making any mistake/dissonance by having a global view of all the notes being played at a certain point in a song. At the same time you could transpose simultaneously several MIDI clips easily by selecting all the notes in this MIDI clip view, as well as making operations with velocity, quantization, etc. All at once, not clip by clip.
About the CCs, i think its clear no? Just try to display more than 1 CC layer on a MIDI clip view with Live 7..Its either one or another, but not viewing 2 or 3 at the same time.
Hope i made it clear this time, Let me know.
thx

I'm suprised nobody mentioned the ability to slice midi notes in the piano roll (like the razor tool for piano roll notes).
It look like I saw this being done in the video.
With that said, it would also be natural for them to have some sort of glue tool as well.
Also some type of wording kind of made me think, they made the record quantize function easier to get to (via key commands). Hopefully they implemented 1/32nd notes as well.
Some of these features like this probably won't make the limelight until 8 is fully released, or when they give more details on what's in Live 8.
Didn't they have more editing functions like reverse and what not (could of been the max demo)?
Anyways those are my predictions of what they might of added, based off of their wording of stuff and me noticing what the program was lacking.
I hope envelope curve types is implemented as well. That one though I doubt will be in 8 without them mentioning it.

woah! thats really pretty cool! think about dummy clips in that setting.
It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.
