Hi Guys,
Is there anywhere I can read about the art of making this sort of music?
Also, does anyone have good suggestions for funky synths/effects/samples (along the lines of Junior Jack/ Kid Creme and Eric Prydz?
Cheers

Funky/Soulful House
basically (ware)house-music was developed by individuals with not a lot of money who wanted to create disco music...they used the cheap electronical instruments they could afford because they couldn't afford to rent a studio with session-musicians and an engineer like the big boys could..... and thus they created their own unique sound....basically house music is disco on a budget.....so if you dig into the good disco sounds and try to recreate this with drumcomputers and synths you're going in the right direction...
btw, there aren't any real typical synths or drumcomputers in house music anymore..there are some basics of course like the FM lately-bass, roland juno-bassline, TR909 drumsounds, but these are all processed/modified..
good luck!
Olaf

Try ripping some old disco or soul records and get some good loops out of them. Then use a flanger and a filter and warp the hell out of them. Add new drums, synths, bass. With some tweaking, you've created a house track.
It sounds easy, but getting the loops to fit into what you've created can be difficult.
