RME Multieface with Powerbooks using LIVE4. any trouble?
RME Multieface with Powerbooks using LIVE4. any trouble?
I'm thinking about changing my I/O from MOTU 828mk2 to RME Multieface.
I sometimes get audio dropouts wth the MOTU using LIVE4.
Has anyone used LIVE4 with Powerbooks and Multieface ?
If you have the experience, how is it ??
Would you share your experience with us ?
These are the things I would like to know about Multieface.
:Is it stable with Live4 ?
:Is it stable with powerbooks OSX ?
:Is the latency very low ? Can you manually change it ?
:Is it better than the interface using the firewires.
:Is the sound quality good ?
I know I should ask the makers, but I would like to hear from the
Live4 users.
Can anyone give me any info?
I would appriciate anything.

Try to identify why you're getting the dropouts. Have you tried changing the buffer for the 828? Do you have the newest driver etc? Have you looked at any MOTU forums or heard from other 828 users with problems? Personally I never had any trouble with my 828 and Live at all unless I had the buffers set too low. Buying a Multiface just to solve this problem may be an expensive disappointment if your dropout problem isn't solved.

PB G4 667Mhz 512Ram.RME Multiface.Live 4.0.4,OSX Panther
I have no problems.Very good sound quality, latency yes you can change it,Firewire is good when you have very fast CPU.I had an PB G3 500Mhz Pismo computer, and they told me to use firewire card i need fast procesor, thats why i bought RME card +multy face. Now i have a PBG4 667Mhz with the same card and no problem too.I am happy with that.Using firewire i dont know how fast the prosesor must be.

just to put my advice here:
In gerneral I'm very very pleased with my RME digiface, BUT, the internal soundcard is much faster. I guess it's because core audio opens up a certain amount of audio tracks by default. but then, it would do it with any soundcard. aight.
so, for now I'm just using the internal soundcard for gigs (cause it's faster) and the RME for decent recording. And I can be shure that if a project in the studio is almost clippin, it won't do it on stage.
well, just wanted to share this...

I have 2 problems with multiface/cardbus on os x 10.3.9 with tibook:
1. confirmed by rme: audio crackles when midi in ports recieves cc-data to remote control live.
2. strange bug when i re-route tracks as input for another track to bounce the audio with automation. (audiofiles are displayed correctly after recording, inside ableton but the files on the hd are broken and only a part of the size they should be).
i am not sure, at the moment, if the rme card is the problem, but without the card/driver loaded it works like it should.
still evaluating the situation.

hey sniffio.
strange questions.
it is my fist multiface and it will possibly be my last, depending on the rme support.
it is a tibook and not an ALbook (i know that there were problems with the new alu books in the beginning).
1. crackling happens if i send cc-automation data to multiface midi in.
and midisync to multiface out.
2. live will not record the full track, but stop after some time while pretending to record. but looking at the audiofiles from the finder tells me that they are not about the expected 150 mb but mor about 30 mb in size. this happens sometimes when i rout some tracks as input objects to other tracks. am am still testing if the problem is the multiface.
free space oh hd is about 2-5 gb.

told ya vince !
almost half a year had passed and it still is rock solid.
Work great with Logic pro7, too.
Vince, if you want to go lower latencies in the future,
i recommend you to disable multiface's midi.
I tested and it helps.
In live4, make sure you go to the preference menu and disabling the midi for the unit.
also, disable everything in the dsp mixer status which you won't be using during your show.
Vince, are u going Live5 ?
Me stay live4 till i can feel the future.
how ya been my friend ?
my next gig is coming up and I'm very into it.
>>outofocus
Sorry that I couldn't help.
Have u tried the other units with your tibook?
If you owned this Multiface from second hand, there is a good chance that it has been already firmware-updated to the Alpowerbook.
Even if it was store-bought, I still recommend to download the firmware updater from RME's website, and update it to normal status.
It's easy and smooth.
make sure your powercords, both the multiface and PB, are connected and working.
Inform us how it goes.

hi sniffio,
I got the multiface second hand, but it was running on a pc before, so i do not think that it has the AL-book firmware on it.
do you know how to check the firmware status?
I only have this one unit and can not use another one.
I will tell you about how the support is going to be on this.
