Collecting ALL Samples?

Hey,

So I have samples I use in Ableton littered all over my hard drive. Is there any way to have Ableton collect ALL the samples it uses, in all projects, into one folder? I want to clean up my hard drive, but I can't tell which samples are being used, and I'm worried that if I move them, Ableton won't be able to find them.

Any way?

Yeah, I was more wondering about a way to do it for all projects.

BUT, if I use "collect all and save" for every project, is it then safe to go around my hard drive and trash any samples and analysis files that aren't in ableton folders?

hmmm , I know what you mean, I am also a bit chaotic with samples somtimes.
To your last quest : I would not say the collect and save is 100% sure
way to later remove or rename samples.
That saves not your vst-pluged-samples automatically
for plugins like "battery" or "kontakt" you must do the securing
seperatly and save kits to maybe your samples or project folder etc......

by the way, this would be a good thing for the future ...
imagine a simple TXT file is written to any project listed all the absolute sample path's involved
So that in an emergency Situation like this you could find the samples manually easier. Its a small txt file but for this situation it would be great.
It could avoid confusion like "..which of the 20 files named as BD.wav was the right one for this and that project." Or "...which AUDIO001.wav ? Was it the old temp file from working with live version 5 ?"

maybe one could assign a special folder
on a physically different harddrive for all the TXT sample lists.
So then even if whole project folder or drive completly crashes
u would know where the former imported and used samples
are ... of course its more useful when having a seperated Harddrive
only for samples , then this would be very secure option to recover broken asd without opening it doing a new rewriting the beat or whatever it was
matching the samples by copy and paste path from the txt-list !

Also good if you are just building a kit and suddenly all gets lost
before saving the kit seperated, you could recover which samples were used. Like in Battery you would have no chance at all. Ok, maybe you remember some... but not all and not exact names and where there are.

What you need to do is being consistent and use collect and save for all projects.
This is also one reason I prefer native samplers.

If you have thousands of projects where you are not sure wether all samples
are saved with the project, I would wait with reorganizing my harddrive until you are 100% sure all projects are self contained.

I would Love a feature where Live calculated the free space necessary to automatically self contain all projects,and do it in one looong operation, that would be a genious feature, wpuld it not?

you need to do 2 things:

manage all of your live sets as a group & export any needed sounds to library

manage the library (oh, you don't use the live library? sux 4 u) (still sux 4 u actually - hehe)
