[amo]Operator breaks patch compatibility with L7 when Racked

Post by Pasha » Sun Feb 15, 2009 9:47 am

Hi

I made a 'complex' rack for Operator with Live 7 and because it's my bread & butter Rack I tested it in L8b10.
With my surprise the same Rack in L8 does not produce any sound. To make it sound I have to tweak the Flter Type.
The reason why this happens is because of the new Filter Types in L8 Operator.
My Rack was based on Band 12db, that appeared as third in the drop down list.
Now Band 12db appears as fifth. The new list appears in alphabetical order and although this is good and offers name compatibility with old patches (tested Ok), poses a treat to racks where a rack knob addresses Filter Type in a relative way, hence the problem. Rack now points to Low 24db instead.
I think this might turn into a general issue when addition were made to instruments parameters.

Suggestion: Add a tweak to Options.txt to have the new filters added at the bottom of the list, to save people the hassle of modifying created racks.

Hi,

If I understand well, you have the "Filter Type" macro mapped, right? So that with the position the macro is saved in, you get a different result in Live 8 and Live 7, for the resulting filter type?

Even if the new ones were at the end of the list, you'd get a different result. That is because the macro range would still have to share between 14 entries instead of 8.

So, if the assumption above is correct, it all comes down to move the know in Live 8 and re-save the Rack, right?

Yes you're got it right.

This should be right. Should I test it?

Yes it's all down to save a new one. Good when you have a few.
