[5125] b13 Crashes when trying to preview audio clips
When trying to preview clips of songs that I have in other Live sets, b13 crashes every single time when doing the sample analysis.
I can preview any song in my iTunes library, but any song that is already a clip cannot be previewed and crashes Live.
Short clips can be previewed just fine, but so far every single full length song that has already been warped can't.

I get the same behavior when trying to preview .alc clips. I sent my file moments ago.

Re: [dwi] b13 Crashes when trying to preview audio clips in brow
More detail:
1. Create a set in session view with only one audio track (and the two default send tracks with nothing on them)
2. Master track has Compressor then Spectrum Analyzer (in that order).
3. Find an alc file for an MP3 song (haven't tried with clips for other file types). I have created alc files for all my songs that I use for DJ'ing, so this is kind of a big deal for me (feel free to call the whaaaambulance
).
4. Click on the clip once in the browser. The preview will display "Click to Preview".
5. Clicking on the preview button give the "Sample Analysis in Progress" dialog.
6. After analyzing the full track, the app crashes.
This seems to only happen when clicking to preview a song I haven't previewed (and thus crashed yet). When I click on a song that I previewed already, it seems to preview fine. It only seems to happen with both of these effects on the master track for some reason. However, it can also happen with just the Compressor and no Spectrum Analyzer or the other way around.
Also, I am just using my laptop and no peripherals.
Thanks Ableton!

This was first reported in b15 and is still happening in b16.
Thanks.

Hi,
The files we got are not of much help. We would need a complete .alc file, but that can be huge. It may not come through via email. If you have another way to send larger files, please to send a link to [email protected], together with a reference to that thread.
Regards,
Amaury

Re: [dwi] b13 Crashes when trying to preview audio clips in brow
Hello,
I can send along an alc file in the alp file but that would not duplicate my scenario. I had created all my alc files and saved them to my library but I don't keep them in a project normally. I just use them for DJ'ing so I will preview them while playing then bring them in. The added hitch is that when I save them, I don't copy the mp3 with the alc file as I want them to be linked to the files managed by my iTunes library. The alc files were created from Live 7. When I go through my normal clip creation process in Live 8 (bring in mp3, save alc file with no effects on the track and don't copy the source file into the alc), previewing from the browser seems to have no problem. I'd really hate to have to recreate all my clips for this issue.
Does this help to recreate this issue or is there any thing else I can provide?
What triggers the "Sample analysis in progress" process vs just loading and previewing the file?
Thanks,
Derek

Re: [dwi] b13 Crashes when trying to preview audio clips in brow
Hi Derek,
Thanks for the details. Unfortunately, I still can't get the crash. I did create an alc file in Live 7, that refers a warped mp3 file, then previewed it in Live 8, even put the Compressor and Spectrum on the Master track (which sounds like it's not part of the problem, but who knows..). Anyway, there may be more conditions, like the set is running, something is playing, or maybe something with your files.
I think it'd still be usefull to get you files, we could re-link the alc and the mp3 using the file manager in Live 7, and try then to preview in Live 8.
You should send the files, and give instructions as how to put the mp3 file (iTunes Library), and the alc, as what to do exactly etc.. Please add a reference to that thread.

Amaury

Awesome! You all rule! A prost! I was about to try to setup an FTP to try to get other files across but you saved me from that!

I have found something else with preview but I'll open a new thread.

It should also be fixed with Live 8.0b19.
Can you confirm that?
