Post by johnny a » Mon Feb 23, 2009 10:12 am

Hi there, im new to abelton and am wishing to sync up traktor pro to abelton and am wondering wot type of inbuilt effects hawtin uses in his sets, alot seem like some sort of distorted delay and alot of the time the pitch of the effect winds up and down.Ive had a muck about for a while with the effects put cant pinpoint the ones he uses, any ideas guys, cheers

Not a clue. However, if you want some 'windy-up pitch' effects, have a fiddle with the Grain Delay; some nice results can come of that.

Why not try to be original, though? You've used your ears and identified the sounds RH makes; why not try to re-create them with the tools you have?

NB* I've never used Traktor so I can't speak for the FX inside that...

psp 42 I believe is the delay he uses live..
I slipped into a daze, whilst I was there I heard the most startling music, it was at once familiar and alien, reassuring and unsettling.

its proper analogue that.

for the pitched delays, probably that psp thing.

but, the upcoming version of ableton will be adding a pitch option in their delay effect, so that may be able to produce sounds that are similar to the pitched-delay effect from the psp line

I would avoid trying to sound like Richie Hawtin - he already exists, nothing against the man and kudos to him for his success, but I don't see a big market for Hawtin clones when they can have the real thing, so I think it's good advice to branch out and create your own sounds and vibe.

You will never find it in Live 7. Its a 3rd party plugin.

Come on, nothing wrong with trying to learn how to achieve a certain sound.

If you do commercials or soundtracks then it is one of the most improtant skills. You will have clients who bring you a tune or a CD and say make something that sounds like this. And when you come back and say "better do it my own style, I developed it in years of mucking around alone" then you lost a client.

If you produce other artists they will come with their favourite records and say "make it sound like this or that".

Obviously it's important to develop your own style, but we all are standing on the shoulders of giants, (who said that?).

As a side note.. Live 8's Simple and Ping Pong Delay plugins now have a repitch mode. Which virtually does the same thing as the PSP delay.
