FOUND: 192 button controller for 45 euros !

Post by Coupe70 » Tue Mar 03, 2009 4:48 pm

See below for what I found in the meantime...

I'm searching for a pc keyboard with non-diagonal
key alignment like on a number pad to build a
midi controller. Yes, i know there are some, but
they are special industry keyboards costing
150 dollars or more. I just want a simple 10
or 20 euro keyboard, but with the keys in
straight lines and coloumns.

Is there one ?
Should be clear what I want to use it for...

Say that it's good first !

I found it after asking here.
It's for pay desk systems and it's from Tipro.
In fact it is two cascaded units, simple programmable keyboards connecting
via PS/2, but of course you can you a PS/2->USB adapter. It has 192 buttons,
so I guess I have to translate some of them to MIDI to use them all in Live...
There is also Preh and others, but Tipro seems to be less expensive.

Got it from ebay here in Germany (I think they still have some). It was
"buy now for 49.90 or propose price" and I proposed 45 euro...
search for Tipro + tastatur.

Here is a PS/2 one if that's acceptable ... 120 keys. (Genovation 854):

this kind of keyboard is so nice! Anyone knows if you could program say two or three of the rows to send midi? I'm thinking buttons for cliptriggering and three rows for actually midipaying of instruments.

no.
the keyboard only outputs key commands (a, A, Alt+A and as far as I know you can programm multiple commands per key).
but (of course) it cannot output midi by itself. you can use usine, midi transaltor (not the free version) or whatever
you want to translate the key commands to midi (do a forum search on this). so yes, you can use it for midiplaying
instruments (of course not velocity sensitive). i think with such a big device you HAVE TO translate at least some
of the keys to midi, because Live accepts less than 192 diffenrent keys and key-combinations for keymapping.
