Taco or Fajita?
Taco or Fajita?
I mean, I respect the crunch of a freshly warmed taco but at the same time the control the fajita brings to the party sets a new moral standard.
I have discovered that if you fill the taco and leave for some time particularly after adding the soured cream, one can warp the taco into a semi taco/fajita hybrid which is appealing...but then what is it? Where is it? and who am I?

Re: Taco or Fajita?
why not just have a soft taco?
fajita's are just upper class soft tacos.

This is not a question to be taken lightly.
Like you, I respect the crunch - but I can't stand when a crispy taco shell breaks on me.
Also mexican restaurants here tend to give you a huge pile of guacamole salad with fajita dinners...
Honestly for me, burritos > both

i'm getting hungry.
Re: Taco or Fajita?
Indeed it is a difficult conundrum!
The burrito is a tasty snack for sure as it the soft taco...but i feel something missing in both: Where do I balance my Jalepeno slices?
And you are right! You spend all that time building the perfect taco, one bite and it disintegrates all over your face in a soured cream and guacamole-cum-salsa face melt mask!
I still think it's worth it for the first crunch though...
Taco wins!

Re: Taco or Fajita?
Those crispy taco things are so bourgeois. Soft corn tortillas are the way it is done. If you want hard-core, satisfying crispy-crunchiness with a tasty, chewy core, then go for the flautas!
Re: Taco or Fajita?
you poor pitiful peeps, nothing beats a northern California burrito. In particular from the mission district in SF, but they all rock..... Never a worry about cum in your food, although an occasional "lets spice whitey" (with hot peppers), but nothing that you can't handle.

Re: Taco or Fajita?
This is the first time an internet forum thread has ever made me hungry. I'm going to get a huge steak burrito with black beans, rice and guac.

Re: Taco or Fajita?
I really prefer the carnitas, especially the outside part that gets all crispy and caramelized from roasting the hogfat! Wrap that baby up in a fresh flour tortilla with some good fire-roasted New Mexico chile salsa, guac, and sour cream... I could die happy then!
Re: Taco or Fajita?
Burritos offer a solution.
There is always the tostada, if you are looking for a flat place to balance things, but it can be prone to the inopportune fracture as well.
Another approach: the flauta, where you *dip the flauta into* the various guac, sour cream, salsa, etc.
