Crackkling when playing external synth - Emu xtreme Lead

Right - Everything in live works perfectly, all audio, loops vstis, everything.

Connect an external emu sound module, audio and midi connections - set the routings so I can play midi notes, they trigger the sound module fine, but I get crackling noises along with the notes I'm playing - any thoughts?

Using Quad core vista PC and M-audio firewire Audiophile - never had any problems with Live or Vstis until this external connection.

Help much appreciated.
