Novation launch biggest music product of 2009?

Post by djgroovy » Tue Mar 31, 2009 10:04 am

Just saw this news:
Novation have announced that they will exhibiting at Musikmesse 2009 (Stand B65, Hall 5.1), in Frankfurt, Germany, April 1-4, and say that they will have the biggest 'music-making' product of the show up their sleeve.

Although Novation aren't saying what the new product will be, they're famous for two things: Firstly, they're widely considered a first choice for controlling software, thanks in part to its Automap software, which is now on version 3.0. Secondly of course is Synthesisers. From the early Bass Station to the Supernova II and more recently Xio, Novation have unleashed some industry-changing synths in their time.

The new product will be unveiled on the first day of Musikmesse, in front of an audience of press and other trade attendees, at 11.45am, GMT +1.
Speculations? I'm curious now.

I guess we'll know tomorrow.
It's either a soft synth, a hardware synth or a huge controller.
But the apc will be tough to beat.

Direct mind to midi control? No more "email checking" live performances, just stand there staring blankly into space.

Let me guess - a giant controller with horrible plastic clicky knobs and some stupid software that makes 7 copies of your plugins and has a pink GUI.

It's got to have lasers and a firework display, else I'm not interested.

My guess, based on the info in the above news quote...

It's a stand-alone synth that can be used as a plug-in. The plug-in can be edited using the controls on the synth, and obviously the synth can be edited away from a computer. And it'll probably have lots of assignable MIDI controllers for controller your DAW at the same time as using/editing the synth. Oh yeah, and it'll have all the sounds from all of Novations old hardware synths.
HARDWARE:
Vaio laptop / M-Audio Transit / Zoom H2 /
Alesis M1 Active 520's / Sennheiser EH2200's
Behringer BCR2000 / misc. instruments & toys

SOFTWARE:
Live 7 / Sound Forge Audio Studio

This is the line I was thinking along.

My initial thought was a replacement super controler for the SL range.

Great minds, eh?

Wherever that quote/info is from is leading to this conclusion. Unless it's all a red herring and they actually have something exciting to announce. Because, for me, if this is what it turns out to be, then it's extremely predictable and boring!

And if Novation's claim is true, that this is the biggest music-making product of the show, then Messe is going to be dull this year.

Not saying the product wouldn't be good, or useful for some people, but it's all a bit middle-of-the-road to me. Where's the in-Novation, so to speak???

I would like to believe that it is a kind of a lemur with automap. In the 300 $ price range. Instant working multitouchinterface for all DAWs, DJ-systems and plugins on the market.
