using a vst arpeggiator

Post by mexique1 » Tue Jan 11, 2005 2:33 pm

hi :)

i'd like to use a VST arpeggiator in Live, like ARPocalypse, but i can't find how to by myself !

i've tried this : i put ARPocalypse in the midi track 1 for example, in this track i switch the monitoring on, so it receives the midi notes sent by my midi keyboard... ok
so i create another midi track (number 2), and i send the midi output of the first track to the second... then i put any VST synth in the midi track 2 and i highlight the monitoring on too

then, when i play a chord on my midi keyboard, it should make a sequence on the second midi track but... nothing happens !
i've tried several routings, but nothing seems to work...

help please :P

i just did the same but using the arp in CS 80 and then absynth on the second track, u wont get the arp notes sent to the second track because live takes the midi data before its processed by ur plugin..

Look at ARPocalypse Help

There are two ways to do this. I think you tried the first way. Try the second way, where you insert ARPocalypse as an insert in an audio track. I haven't tried this yet, so I'm wondering if it will work. Let me know.

I have successfully used EnergyXT with Live, when in dire need for an arp.

yea it will only work via rewire i think, have to try it.. there is a vst audio to midi converter which might be worth looking at as well, if the plugin your using doesnt work..

but yea i tried all types of options and i could never get it to work within live..

I'm not at home, but I just thought of trying this. What about setting up Virtual Midi Ports, like with MIDI-Yoke, sending the MIDI "out" to that port, and then takeing it back "in" to another channel? Anyone try this yet?

nebulae > i read energyXT can be used as a VST plugin... maybe the solution ? and there's an arp in eXT, am i wrong ?
i must check this program...

theuriah > thanx, but i'm a little bit allergic to midiyoke/midiox, i tried but... i abandoned

anyway thanx, i've found a new method : i use the arpegiator of my MC-909 with a midi file in Live => it's just crazy ! :P

we'll see :roll:

Arp in EnergyXT

Post by nebulae » Wed Jan 12, 2005 1:53 pm

You are correct, there is an arp in EnergyXT. Basically, you load EnergyXT as a VSTi within Live. Then you load your VSTi of choice inside EnergyXT. You need to learn EnergyXT a bit to figure out how to use the arp, but it's pretty easy when you go through the various help files out there.

I usally load the arpeggiator in Plogue Bidule and let the midi pass through midi yoke between that and Live. Don't have run in rewire mode.

yeeeeeeaaaaaaah ! (sorry, i'm VERY slow, almost a month :oops: :oops: :oops: )

that's right, energy XT truly expands the possibilities of Live !
i just inserted energy XT + MIDI XT in Live, linked the midi input to an arpeggiator, the midi output of the arpeggiator to tobybear VST2MID (thanx sil/sic industries :wink: ) and finally to the midi output , and it works !!!

i haven't really understood how to route the signal to Live, but i jsut had a couple of hours yesterday to test it : amazing !!!
and there are also wonderful things to do with Live+Bidule as rewire slave+EnergyXT as a VST in Bidule

thanx to all ++
