OT: Currywurst
Is amazing!!!
How have I never heard of this until a currywurst restaurant opened in the East Village a few weeks ago?
Apparently it's a German thing? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Currywurst
How did an entire country keep this delicious concoction a secret from me for so long?
YUM!

I am up on döner (DELICIOUS), but this Currywurst business is amazing. For the New Yorkers on here, you owe to yourselves to check out the Currywurst spot on 1st Ave btw 7th and 8th Streets. Prepare for mind blowing goodness.
Nothing like regional street food. I wish someone from Iceland would open a Hlloli Batur here in NYC. I think I ate there 3 times in a week while I was there (then again I was broke at the time).

Re: OT: Currywurst
it is a german thing and it is a berlin thing (here is the birthplace of the Currywurst) the best in berlin you get at konopke's in prenzlauer berg. some claim at curry 36 in kreuzberg, but there the ketchup sucks and it's greasy.
yumm. konopke's currywurst with french fries and spicy onions, i could murder one right now!

it is a berlin thing, the first ever currywurst was sold in charlottenburg at stuttgarter platz a german woman had right after the ending of the second world war a little 'bretter bude" stand there selling grilled sausages to survive and came with the idea out of the situation of having nothing after the war, she simply used whatever she had to sell some food, that was sausages and from the american soldiers imported ketchup and foreign spices... she could get her hands on, curry powder and spicy paprika powder... the berliner currywurst was born.
and it's properly called "Berliner Currywurst" anywhere in the country. there is not just a currywurst.
the hamburg dude can fuck off and eat his rotten fish.

Re: OT: Currywurst
the point is: its a novel.
the hamburg guy stole the original story, placed it somewhere else and added a little love story.
its just a novel about the end of WW II.
funny how irritating this can get, i guess the lokalpatriotismus thing really works. i never intended to argue about the original invention properly called "berliner currywurst".
okay?
