dropouts, pops and clicks with low cpu usage?

Post by mazmith » Thu Apr 16, 2009 4:45 am

in my dj set, i have an average cpu load of 28% with spikes occasionally hitting 50%. I get dropouts, pops, and clicks when triggering clips, or using fx for the first time, and randomly throughout the set (hi or low midi controller activity). i have tried to solve the problem with no luck. anyone experience this, or have any possible solutions? thanks. im not sure if the next bits of information is useful or not, but here's what i'm working with...

I have experimented w/ the buffer size,
reducing the amount of fx and channels used in the set,
using the RAM button on all loops/one shots in the set. (not full tracks)

I now run a total of 8 channels(rarely use 4 or more at a time) with 4 returns(reverbs, delays).
the whole set has 36 fx.
the set is just over (150+scenes)10 gb's due to the amount of loops saved as clips inside the set.
full tracks saved in my library (14gb) and are brought into the set on the fly, which will occasionally give me the evil pinwheel.

thank you for your time and help.

does the hard disk overload indicator icon in top right ever turn on?

sounds like buffer issue...

if you were on PC I would recommend reinstalling/updating your sound driver, but I don't know anything about mac lol.

does this happens when you have everything set to default in the audio setup?

i raised my buffer size from 512 to 700 to use this set with no luck. cutting down to 36 fx seemed to work the best out of my attempts, i just don't want to shed anymore.

Hi Mazsmith,

I have the same problem:

http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=112684

I have received no response yet. I have sent a letter to the ableton help desk, so I will let you know if and when I get a reply or make any progress.

I tried freezing some tracks, but this didn't eradicate the clicks and gaps in audio, just made them less frequent.

Good luck and please let me know if you make any head way!

Mazsmith I have solved my problem (for the moment!).

I had warp mode set on complex in the 'Record, Launch, Warp' Preferences.
Try setting this on re-pitch and hopefully your glitches will go awaaaaaayy!

Have you changed the setting on each individual clip?
