Ableton 8.01 and Windows 7.......AWESOME EXPERIENCE!

Post by Dj-Grobe » Thu Apr 23, 2009 7:43 am

I know Windows 7 is not finished product, but what can say guys, ableton 8.0.1 + windows 7 is a perfect combination.
Under Live beta, i find some troubles like high cpu usage of ableton under winodws 7, need run ableton in compatibility mode Vista, etc etc etc.
8.0.1 run just in perfect way under windows 7 and not need use VISTA compatibility mode.
CPU usage is really low, latency is amazing low, 2.5 ms with my presonus firebox without any glitch, and 2ms, using asio4all with the onboard audio card. (anyway i use the onboard card, just for test)
I repeat i know win 7 is unfinished product but at this moment is the best windows in all the Microsoft history, finally windows is perfect OS for DAW.
I work with MAC in the last 5 years, and XP just for some vst and can confirm after 2 months with windows 7 is really solid OS.
Im working with windows 7 32bits in the last month in live gigs......i know that sound crazy, but system run smoothly, like OSX and better, due all is a little more faster.

Before blame for this post due windows 7 is unfinished product etc etc......i sugest if have some free time, just download windows 7, pickup your serial and try.

Interesting feedback - thanks mate!

Windows 7's performance with Live will be a key factor in myself getting a another new Apple or switching to Windows at the end of this year.

Is anyone else use this combo at the moment, how do your results compare?

My father is currently using windows 7, not for audio work but programming and game design. I couldnt even start to name all the applications he uses but apparently its really stable. This is from a man who hates vista.

+1 Thanks for the feedback. It is my habit to skip every other MS OS and I think that pattern will stay intact, as I will not be using Vista. But since I will start to build my next comp later this year I welcome all feedback from you early adopters :)

Wow, great news! If 7 proves to be stable compared to vista, I'll probably just stay with windows.

Presonus firebox work perfect, onboard sound card work perfect.
TC electronics Konnect 6 work perfect.
I not tested more cards, but see in forums another guys commeting no trouble with drivers with other cards.
Windows 7 is higly compatible with VISTA drivers, basically is 7 is upgrade of vista......just working how should do work vista.
Test windows 7 with your card is teh best way to know if work or no.

I'm back using build 7077 x64....
I have to say the W7 Ultimate (64 bit) is very solid...even compared to the W7 32bit version...

Has anyone been able to run a DPC latency checker on windows 7 yet? Very interested in finding some results as DPC latency in Vista has been a right pain for me :( and I dont want to get to excited about windows 7 if this aint fixed.

Been running the Live 8 betas and 8.0.1 on Windows 7 build 7000 for a couple of months with no significant issues. The difference between Windows 7 and Vista is night and day.
  1. Search for "poodleface" on YouTube.
  2. See Ric Flair rap.

i've heard good things about win7 ( or win97 :P ) but i will not go back to windows as a main os. i will still have to buy it because i do web design AND i've gone without my games for a year now. either way, i'll pick up a copy of xp soon just in case.
