i have the remote sl and maschine.i dont see a need for it.i also use my iphone like a scaled down lemur.i think the apc40 would be redundant in my case.anyone else not really so hyped about it.i forgot..i also have a ecler evo5 which has midi stuff as well.

At the price I'm thinking a midibox with LC module and some changes to the firmware would be a better.

The price point is just a bit silly when they can be built for so **much** less with so much more flexibility.

It's way too big and costs too much for what it is, like all Akai products.

Other alternatives:

Mouse-free navigation in Live: Any midi controller and keystroke to MIDI translators like Bome and MIDIstroke along with midi yoke/IAC, generic usb keypad, or a Novation controller with Automap 3 Pro.

Session view clip matrix controller: Maschine

Tactile step sequencer: Maschine or iphone/ipod touch

Automatic mapping of selected device's macro controls: Any midi controller that has 8 knobs and Live's instant mapping, Maschine, or a Novation controller with Automap.

simple clip triggering is nice for those who need it, I guess, but I don't need it and wouldn't encourage anyone buying anything from Numarkai during the first round.

for my kind of music i really don't need an apc-40 for some basic mixing/device/clip control.
i understand that a lot of other people might need it for remixing/dj'ing or whatever,but i feel that the Abes SHOULD add this stuff to the SOFTWARE first:

-RECORDABLE CLIP ENVELOPES.
-MOUSEFREE OPERATION

perfect that,and THEN build the mother of all hardware controllers.
that's the way i would do it.....

The thing that gets me with most of these controllers is that USB 3 is just around the corner, so it's out-dated within 6 months - 1 year of its release.

I'm going to wait it out until a few more incarnations have gone by and a few extra features have been added.

If it were also a sound card with a hard drive and some extra processing power that could boost the power of your computer then I would have bitten.

I'm sure it's great but it's not actually necessary for most people who already have some kind of controller.

I suppose in its present state, No, it wouldn't really benefit greately from USB 3.

Personally, I would really love something like this to further my laptop's capabilities. If they expanded its use to incorporate audio and extra plug-in power, then yes, USB 3 would be a necessity.

Perhaps something for Akai/Ableton to look at in the future. Alas, at present, this is wishful thinking.

Of course they can, as long as they pay the export/import duties, which can make the thing a hell of a lot more expensive than it first appears.
