Post by stonee » Thu May 07, 2009 8:33 pm

son of a... that sucks.

I don't know if Macbooks have an external monitor port but a friend of mine has some old ass Mac laptop that the screen went poof, so he just took it off and uses an external monitor.

Kind of defeats the point of a laptop but it's a solution for the time being.

Depends on how old is your MacBook.

The newer MacBooks (I have one from february 2008) have mini-DVI output which you can use to connect to an external DVI or VGA input, assuming you will have to purchase the correct adapter/cable for this to work. I am typing this message using external display actually.

And there is nothing more portable than a MacBook with an external display.

the screen is still usable n stuff, its just got a big crack running through it. luckily the crack starts near the top, so the liquid isn't in a hurry to run out.

so, i put an order in on screencountry.com. 280$ all in, and I should have something by Tuesday. then I have to either install it myself, or find someone who can do it without charging me 200$ for 2 hours of labour

I've replaced lsd screens on laptops before. it's really easy. just remove the broken one, get the part number off of it and find a new one on ebay. I spent $60 shipped on the last one I did I believe.

it will be years before I can afford another machine, haha

I have a good backup running on it, so hopefully i cant loose to much.

but your right, its true, and does suck, every couple of years your going to loose, or at least severly damage your computer.

at least thats what i tell myself to soften the blow, haha
