The U.S have always had it good when it comes to electronics.

for eu software we all pay the same > euro amount.
for us software. most of eu customers have to pay in euro. (if you buy it eg at local music store..)
sidenote: often eu sw is cheaper in us shops as in eu. (thats the craziest stuff of all!)

449,- euro (apc in eu) = $609 instead of $399 in us.

normally shops convert $ directly to euro. eg something in us cost $100 we have to pay 100eur.

but now its $399 in us and (converted) $609 in eu? there is something completely wrong if you ask me.
who is the sucker which collects $200 here. (this question is not regarding customs ;-)

and as it`s produced in china as all the other stuff > the way of the product to the customer is the same.
fuckin eu. sorry but i really hate this so much.

The respective governments. The US doesn't have VAT...

Read my answer above. They have nothing to do with it; it's the EU and VAT that's the cause.

sorry but thats wrong ...

normaly shops tend to only switch Dollar to Euro here in europe. (eg $399 = Eur 399)

but in apc 40 case there is more wrong than this! as written on one of my posts above:
$399 in us and (converted) $609 in eu

if i eg selfimport it form us for eg 399,- i`ll get it for $540 inclusive shipping & inclusive eu customs.

but distributors in eu are not private persons like me nor do they import from usa.
they import from china. (same as us distributors do)

so again this is why i wrote that somethig here is completely wrong.
someone in distribution chain thinks customers are idiots and unable to compare us / eu prices..
thats the big point here :?

It's mostly like ewi pointed out. Mostly governments customs and excise are getting the benefit, although you do have to wonder on some transactions ...

Example is Cubase 5 retailing at $499 US dollars and costing 549 euros (which is equivalent to $745 US Dollars) and 451 UK Pounds ($689 US Dollars). Steinberg/Yamaha blame it on currency fluctuations.

Live 8 Suite 625 euros (848 US dollars), 552 UK pounds (833 dollars), and US Dollars is 799. So very little difference from Ableton, while Cubase customers in the UK and Europe get the shaft !!

p.s. prices quoted are from Thomann for UK and Europe and Zzounds.com for US prices.

As for the APC40, it does suck that europeans are paying the equivalent of almost 610 US Dollars based on 440 euro at today's conversion rate as opposed to sub 400 dollars in the US. And electronics is one area I have consistently noticed as being quite a bit lower overall in the USA (especially) and Canada (to a degree) than in the UK, given I emigrated from the UK in 2000 to Canada and live close enough to do some cross border shopping into the USA once in a while.
