Tracks imported from cd clipping master output

Post by phredbull » Mon May 18, 2009 6:31 am

I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I couldn't find anything in the forums, so...

I've imported some tracks from a cd. I look at the waveform, and there are definitely clipped waveforms. BUT, once audio has been burned onto an audio cd, it's no longer clipping, it's already clipped, meaning nothing is going over zero, even though there are many flattened peaks at zero. I would assume that with the track and master faders at zero, both of their meters would hit max, but not go over, and not turn red. But instead, both meters go well above the zero marker, and the master is way in the red. Steinberg Wavelab's meters are showing what I would expect, (meters slamming right up to zero, but no actual clips). What's the dealio? :?

(BTW, I'm still using version 5. :( It gets the job done.)

Could be heavy limiting. Some mastering guys like to squash the music like crazy.
